Ohio State Day at Cedar Point

Yeah, this is the forecast I was mentioning as I am psychic:

Rawr. Like MaverickLaunch said, the tickets are already paid for and nontransferable. Crossing fingers for a classic Ohio weather turn around.

Yep, it's pretty evident at by now that the point is gonna get socked on Friday. All the forecast models I've looked at agree, rain is very likely.

I think I'm going to just go to bed early and hit media day tomorrow, and drive back home after. I don't need to re-live the crappy memories of closing weekend last year, walking around while all the rides are closed.

^ We didnt even leave Hotel Breakers that Friday night. Went swimming, ate at fridays, and played with the kids in the room, went to bed. And we arrived at 2pm and checked in early.

I am coming into town and I am an NIU alumni. I wonder if I can attend? Anybody want to bring me and a buddy in as a guest?

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

They included "fans" of Ohio State so pretty much if you pay the $35, I think you are good.

Can you use a season pass or no?

This is great that they are doing this for OSU alumni and their families. I can't go cuz I got a track meet in Lancaster.(Both my parents are OSU alumni)

The god of speculation

Looks like the park is totally empty. Have a feeling this won't happen again with this low of sales.

May look empty but technically doesn't start until 11am, and just the threat of bad weather can tip the scales against anyway even though the radar looks fine.

remember: no matter where you go... there you are.

ah its starts at 11. Weather could play a factor, but with this ticket only usable today, it shouldn't as much.

As I understand it, Ohio State essentially rented out the park for the day. Ohio State set the rules/requirements for who can go. I am not sure the park really cares how many people actually show up other than having to staff the rides/concessions/etc. But they were running through much of that stuff yesterday anyway getting ready for opening day tomorrow.

It's like a free dress-rehearsal for the park. I'm sure their tickled Pinks.

Promoter of fog.

Park looks absolutely deserted. I should have stayed. We left last night, based on the weather forecast for today, but it looks like most of the day is going to be alright. Weather guys suck. I still am surprised though, as discussed earlier these were advance ticket sales that weather should not have significantly impacted.

Getting 10 hours sleep after being up nearly 24 hours straight felt pretty good too, though.

It's getting to look like a normal May weekday now. The parking lot went from nearly empty few minutes before 11 to now half filled now. Dragster has a 30 minute wait looking at the crowd in the line.

Had they allowed tailgating, the parking lot would have been filled by 5 this morning (with a lot of people arriving yesterday) many/most of whom had no intention of going into the park.

Looks like a typical opening weekend in the park at this point. There is no validation of association with the University, so it's basically open to anyone who pays. That being said, those affiliated with the university get an unlimited soft drink wristband, which is a nice perk.

Also, for those of you wondering, if you're a platinum pass holder you DO get free parking today. You just have to get it validated at the Season Pass Center.

For those there who have never seen the Danger Brothers I would urge you to check out the band in the afternoon. Excellent party band with strong ties to Ohio State fans.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

So, how crowded did the day end up being?

It wasn't that bad. I'd say the longest line I waited in (besides Dragster's which was prolonged by mechanical issues) was 30 minutes at GateKeeper.
