Disney is not banning them. They're prohibited on rides.

Actually, as of Friday 6-26-15 they will banned from all Theme Parks....

No they are not, no employees have been notified of anything beyond the ban on rides.

This year, they are for sale at KD and KI, I have yet to see them at CP for sale, however no mention of prohibiting them has been announced.

The only prohibited items I've seen this year have been banning unauthorized drones flying over the parks

Actually it's been covered in most pre-shift meetings... Check with your management team...although I just heard the date has been pushed back to 6/30

I had to google this blasted thing. It's out of control. And yes, first thought that comes to mind is how narcissistic our society has become. Started with MySpace and on.

Why would anyone want to carry this stick around all day? Can I ask, how do you snap the picture with it being far away? What happened to asking someone to take a group picture?

A selfie stick comes with a small wire that sticks out of the holder where you place your phone. Connect that wire to the auxiliary port on your phone. When you're going to take a picture, there is a button on the handle that you press and it takes the picture.

No, I do NOT own one. I've just had the "pleasure" of taking group pics at the Kenny Chesney concert a few weeks ago by someone who is my supposed "friend" :)

My daughter's (age 12) Narcistick is actually bluetooth enabled, no cable required. Having said that, the Narcistick has not left our house since it snuck in...

I saw a "news" story today about Disney World shutting down a ride because someone had a selfiestick out and thearticle said the ride reopened a few minutes later. Seriously? Stopping a ride to confiscate a selfi stick is national internet worthy news? Can you imagine a press release every time a ride at CP was stopped on the lift hill to take a cell phone away?

In a world of 24-hour news cycles, where anyone with an Internet connection can be a "news" source ... yep, that's (inter)national Internet worthy news, if only to the person who posted it.

What's next? News stories that someone went to the bathroom at the park?

I dunno... Selfies as a whole? Yeah... Narcissim... I feel ya.

Any photography on a ride? Just plain idiotic. It's a safety issue.

But selfie sticks in general? I actually don't have a problem with them.

Group photos have always been a pain in the neck. You had to set the camera on a tripod / flat surface, set the timer, run to your group, and pray that you got the framing right so you didn't cut off your head.

How is a selfie stick any worse than handing your phone to a stranger for a group photo? I get asked for that in the park frequently and am always happy to help.

It's not the selfie stick I actually have a problem with. It's the persons waving their selfie stick around, focused on taking their photo and not realizing how close they're coming to smacking someone in the head.

Generally speaking, a stranger in a park taking your photo is not likely to hit a bystander in the process.

One involves a social and generally pleasant human exchange, the other involves being self-absorbed and unaware of your surroundings. So there is that.

Man the irony is thick up in here. :)

I don't understand all the hate towards selfie sticks... sure they look funny but its's a fun and creative way to take a picture. There is absolutely no reason they should be banned. This is not like the "Heely" shoe years ago that was a danger to others. If you don't like them, don't use them. But they're not hurting anyone or causing any disruption.

To echo what noggin said, I understand people that have a problem with others waving them around. That's understandable, that issues come with almost everything. The way I see it, if someone is using it in a responsible manner, they are totally fine,

We see folks come through the lobby, past the box office with them. When they're carrying them, no problem. When they start waving them around, their attention focused on the screen and not their surroundings, on the other hand....
