Special effects and theaming not repaired anymore?

At the park this past Saturday. The steam/fog is not working on Shoot The Rapids and Maverick. The water cannons not working on Maverick. Not sure about Magnum. Of course not to mention Disaster Transport. Some lights still out on Windseeker seats. Etc. Etc. Did management blow their wad on the stage show or what? I paid full price. I should get the full experience!

Last I checked, Maverick has not had a mist in the tunnel for years now. Last I was at CP earlier this month, Maverick had the water bombs working and STR had the mist running. However the water running down the second hill was off.

This has been discussed many a times. Trust me you are not alone. I was there Sunday and the fog on STR was working. I have not seen Magnum's working for quite some time and Maverick's was taken out a few weeks after it opened in 2007.

And I doubt management "blew their load" on Luminosity. Maintenance would be more responsible for these things and they have their hands full as is with all these rides. Maverick's water bombs are a constant problem because algae builds up in the mechanisms and clogs it.

Maverick's water bombs work most of the time in my experiences. I'll occasionally see a strip or two of the blue lights on in the tunnel too.

I'm still waiting for the laser sounds to come back into the tunnel on the Magnum

Why is it that people will notice something not turned on and assume its broke and the park has decided to not care about it anymore? Ever think it may be turned off for a reason? I know when its windy, sometimes they will turn off the water bombs on Maverick. It is also possible for something to break and the park will wait to fix it at night instead of shutting down the ride just to fix a water effect.

Unacceptable! ;)

Yeah... i get really mad when theming is left for crap. It makes rides way better.

On Str the waterfalls and mist are hit or miss depending on the day. Most of the glass bottles are gone for theming.

Mavericks fog in the tunnel is gone.

Magnums lights... etc.

It really sucks when your taking someone on their first trip and you tell them all about it, and it doesnt live up to the hype because stuff is turned off

why is Mavericks fog gone, and what happened to the lights and sound in the tunnel too? don't know why it would be hard to keep the sound running.

Cedar Point used to have a dedicated special effects dept and sound dept. They took care of the dark rides and the funhouse along with the animations along the CP&LE. When the park started to get rid of the dark rides the SE dept. was merged into the Ride Maintenance dept.and per usual there was nothing extra put into the budget to take care of the animations and effects that were still in the park. What was left got taken care of when ever there was some extra money in the budget and the people who did the work were available. More people see the animation and effects on the railroad so it got a higher priority than Disaster Transport. As far as Maverick, perhaps there developed a maintenance issue with the use of the fog in the tunnel, other than the fog making equipment itself. As far as STR, that amount of plumbing it could be any number of things. An attraction like this uses moderate pressure high volume pumps. These are not stock items and are custom built on order. If one of these failed, they could be either (A) waiting for the new pump to be built and shipped, or (B) the pump was supposedly under warranty and they are waiting for Intamin to send a new pump.

I seem to remember something about the fog machine in Maverick's tunnel being problematic for the launch electronics...

I hunk it was more to do with the fire alarm system. They did not got smoke detectors that worked in the mist. At least that's what I have been told.

They actually took the misters out of Maverick's tunnel? They didn't just turn them off?

I was just thinking about that. I wouldn't imagine the large amount of moisture is good for the electronics. Wish I could have ridden it when the fog was there.

Fog isn't moisture though. It's just... visible air.

^Um.....what? Fog, in the natural sense IS moisture. Fog in the special effects world, is either a glycol water based fluid that's heated/chilled and atomized. Once it hits the air/moisture, the vapor condenses to what you see as white smoke. Thus, I think it'd have to have some kind of moisture to it. And I've personally felt moisture after putting my hand at the tip of a running fog machine.....so yea.

In this case, I think Maverick used water based or haze machines (pumps through pipes and whatnot) to create a thick wall of moisture....much like on Shoot the Rapids. And it would definitely have an effect on certain electrical devices. Plus, I've heard the same story from a few sources that it was messing with the fire system in the tunnel as well as some of the launch components.

Sorry, you're wrong. I use a fog machine for my Rock Band nights, and if the room was getting moist, I would be the first to know.

I think somebody might be in a fog around here.

If I was in a rock band, I'd be more worried about the amount of moisture in the air due to increased temperatures and perspiration......which is just naaasty. :)

I was there on Saturday and noticed the mist and rapids off on STR, but I just assumed they were off because it wasn't hot that day. Tony and Tyler said they can Turn off and on effects depending on the weather. My 7 year old, on the other hand, was very disappointed that there wasn't any mist on Iron Dragon, after seeing it on the You Tube video the day before. I'm not sure why that was off.
