Supercoasters on NGC

I would think there's inheritently a bigger risk in running steam as well.

Not to mention the steam on the aircraft carrier is produced by the nuclear reactor it has on board. Probably not the easiest thing for CP to get a permit for...

Actually no, the steam generated to run the catapult comes from a standalone system. They installed a steam plant on all the newer carriers just to run this system and nothing else.

The reason they can't use hydraulics on an aircraft carrier is because an airplane weighs a little more than one of the trains on dragster.

They don't use hydraulics on a carrier, because that system is not reliable.

There is no reason they couldn't do it (use a steam catapult). It's just a matter of what they are willing to pay. For a coaster, CP doesn't see it as cost effective (and in all reality it probably isn't). However if they wanted to shell out the money for it, I'm sure there is a way it could have been done.

That's correct Jugga.

We have to remember that we're only sending something up to 120 mph that weighs next to nothing in comparison to an aircraft.

There's no reason for it is what we're all trying to say....not that it's not feasable just that's it pretty ridiculous.

But dont you think that the cost would weigh out since you would be able to launch with out hardly any down time at all. If you watched the segment of the show on it they were launching like one every few seconds. granted we wouldnt have to launch that fast but it wouldnt be a bad idea. The basic idea is a giant boiler the pumps steam through a pipe. How much can it really cost? Does anyone have an aproximated cost? Until then you cant really say wether it would cost more then the hydraulics or not. But like i said the cost would weigh out. Or at least thats my take on it. Just adding to this mess. :)

Now the cost of taking out the old and putting new will be too much i under stand that. But if other coasters like ttd used it then it wouldnt be that costly. *** Edited 6/6/2006 8:17:31 PM UTC by cedarpoint24/7***
