Two New Rides Possibly being Built?

^CP has very little trends when it comes to building new rides. This is our third new ride in 3 years.

That said, CP wouldn't be as stupid as SFMM in 2001.

well... if you think about it, we've had 5 new rides in 5 years, starting with WT in 2002. And the 2007 will obviously be the 6th in a row.

^That's just to show CP has money and room to grow.

Not true...

2002: Wicked Twister
2003: Top Thrill Dragster
2004: No new ride, focus on Top Thrill Dragster modifications.
2005: maXair
2006: Skyhawk

The thing you are missing is, that TTD and WT were the Major things added. SH and Maxair were big but not major.

SFMM for awhile there were adding major rides every single year.

101 on Magnum and counting...

yes... my mistake. CP did not build in 2004.

still... this is Millennium's 7th year of existence, and only two years since 2000 has CP not built a *major* ride. I understand that maXair and Skyhawk are not roller coasters, but i see them on the same level as Power Tower, as they are quality thrill rides. CP used to follow this "every other year" timeline for new thrill rides, but the park has definitely quickened the pace.

Just think, less than 10 years ago, the tallest ride in the park (aside from Space Spiral) was Magnum. Mantis towered over the midway and the Giant Wheel was where MF is today. CP's skyline has changed dramatically, starting with the construction of Power Tower and then MF, WT, and of course TTD. CP has done an excellent job of adding quality rides at an affordable, yet quick pace.

Despite the addition of Paramount parks, I really don't expect CP to take a break after P2007. We probably wont see anything in 2008, but I hope Cedar Fair will continue its focus on its flagship park and keep adding new rides the way they have been.

08 should end up being like 04. From there we need to take a look at the front of the park. DD at most has 2 years left. IMO

If I'm not mistaken 1991, 1992, and 1995 were the only years during the last decade to not see any new ride. In the past, CP has been asked the question about when they build rides and they always say, they have no trend.

CP will put something in every other year. That seems to be there trend. And will not go more then 4 years without a coaster.

1991 was when Mean Streak was built and then nothing happened in '92 and '93. Major thrill rides were then built in '94 (raptor), '96 (mantis), '98 (pt), '00 (mf), and '02 (wt), following the "every other year" pattern.

As for what this thread is actually about... this was mentioned earlier but remember what SFMM did in 2001 X, Deja Vu, and some kiddie ride? We can all agree that it was a bad investment on Six Flags' part. I dont think CP has ever bothered with opening more than one ride at once and i'm sure they will never do so as Six Flags gives them a great example why. Trying to advertise two or three new rides wouldn't bring in any more people than advertising just one. Thats why its best to just open one new ride a year.

Only a Six Flags park would add two rides and hype it as one--this is why magic mountain is in such turmoil--the place sucks--every ride i rode there was a disapointment

I don't doubt that CP could possibly put in more than one ride or even coaster for this off season. It would help explain why they started in May or even April maybe(not sure when construction started for this new ride). It could also be themed up or have some kind of new water that doesn't get people wet. That might be why it is starting so early. In all of my 21 some years of attending the park, I have never seen them start construction so early on a ride or attraction. So two rides going in in one year, while not probable isn't impossible. I just odn't think they would go in the same construction site.

^ Yes this ride is probly going to be major themed. Mabye that is why there starting it so early. With CedarPoint, anything is possible. ;)

Total Maverick rides for the 2007 season = 27

Top 5--- 1. Maverick- 2. Millennium 3. Magnum 4. TTD 5. Gemini

Cavs- 2007 Eastern Conference Champions!.-

1993 was Snake River Falls. I'm curious what is going to happen in the spot of the old WWL loading station. I'm not buying that this is going to be the loading station for the new coaster. Would be a good spot of a flat ride such as a Topple Tower.

There are some holes in that timeline, throwing this mythological "pattern" into a spiral.

In 1992 Bearenstane bear country was nearly doubled in size

In 1993 Snake River Falls opened

In 1995 Soak City had a large expansion

In 1997 Chaos opened

In 1999 Camp Snoopy opened

In 2001 Vertigo opened

And TTD opened the year after WT And then a major thrill ride in 05, 06, and 07. Im not seeing ANY "every other year" pattern here. I think rides are selected and built to fullfill a park need/want rather than to fullfill a pattern.

Hmm... So 2004 was the first year without an addition in a while...

Here is the building of new things from 1985 on.

1985: Avalanche Run
1986: Thunder Canyon
1987: Iron Dragon
1988: Soak City
1989: Magnum
1990: Disaster Transport
1991: Mean Streak
1992: Barenstain Bear expanded, and Challenge park built
1993: Snake River Falls
1994: Raptor
1995: Soak City Expanded, Breakers Expanded
1996: Mantis, Rip Cord
1997: Swan Boats, Chaos, Soak City Expansion
1998: Power Tower, Breakers Expanded
1999: Camp Snoopy
2000: Millenium Force, Breakers Express
2001: Vertigo, Lighthouse Point
2002: Wicked Twister
2003: Top Thrill Dragster
2004: Castaway Bay, Splash Zone
2005: MaxAir
2006: Skyhawk
2007: Project 2007

I think its pretty easy to see that there hasnt really been a year since 1984 in which they havent made what i would consider to be a Major capital improvement to the park, or properties supporting the park. Just think, every time they add something of note, thats a ton of free advertising for them.
