Vertigo single tower collapse

Midway Man, don't feel bad...when Chaos happened at MIA I got the first call from the fire department. They said that the ferris wheel had fallen over, and I posted that on CBuzz. It's hard to get all the facts at first.
Anyway, I really hope everything is ok, and that we get some facts as to why this happened.
I would rather have it be WT - think about it, not much will fall (because there isn't much to fall), there's not much of a risk of damaging other attractions (maybe, but probably not), they are building it now anyways so it would be easy to repair, etc.  I do realize that it is VertiGo though, and I'm bummed...

I dont understand why this happen..were they testing the ride? Or was it in use at all..or just some freaky thing?
Well, I guess they will have another use for the 250 foot crane when it arrives. Sorry, I just had to say it, even though it may not be time for such a witty comment. :)
i am sure they just cant pick the piece off the ground and bolt it back on...lol... gonna proboly be a long time till the replacement parts will come in... then theres testing agaiiinnn...

Well, I won't be riding this thing anytime soon. All we need is something to happen like what happened to the Reverse bungy thing...
I'l be the first one back on it.. was the first non-employee rider.. and I'll be back on it when it re-opens..
I will not be riding, as I see my safety in danger.  Sure, I would've ridden before a part of the tower broke off, but now, whenever I see the swaying towers, I won't be able to bring myself to ride Vertigo, ever.
Better now than in June, huh ?  Probably should have tightened the lug nuts after 1,000 miles. (I didn't do that once, lost the whole wheel.)  CP will have everything under control, they always do. They need to watch their butts though, this is not a good oops.

Come on we don't even know what happened, seems all I can think of is that they were doing some work on the ride and somebody screwed up, it's weird anyway.
Before we judge whether we want to ride it again or not, maybe we should wait and see the cause. I will be the second one back on it, right behind Rob of course.

If the ride reopens, which hopefully it will, I will be one of the first riders...

If it just broke off the wouldnt the cable stop it from just smashing into the ground, or would it snap?

According to Zero-G, the tower fell on the ticket booth.  Just imagine if the tower fell the other direction.  If that happened, better call Arrow as well.

Rob I'll be riding right beside you!  I also believe that we were the last riders of the season too.
Kurt, I highly doubt that those cables could actually hold up one of those mult-ton towers.  Those cables are strong, but I highly doubt that they are that strong.  If it took out a ticketbooth, I would have to assume that it was the Vertigo/RipCord booths, which means there also may be some minimal damage to part of soak city.
Hey Scott, you got there before me!

I'd be curious to know if they have closed other installations of the ride.  I believe there is one operating at MM and Knott's Berry Farm.

B/M Flyer For 2004....

If they store that ride like they do Power Tower, the cables were probably taken off for the winter.  Not sure how this could happen, it was not that windy in Sandusky yesterday according to the weather reports, it has been much windier this summer.  Sounds like maybe a defect in the steel???
I would be very surprised if they even reopen VertiGo.  While Rob and shorty are anxious to get on (presumably) to show how safe it is, the general public isn't as forgiving.

And even though Janice says that they won't reopen unless they are "150%" certain that the ride is safe... an incident like this automatically makes it unsafe in the eyes of the public.

Is it right?  Probably not.

Is it fair?  Well, everything is fair when it comes to perception.
