Maverick blocks and tunnel slowdowns

There used to be a block brake right before the final helix. Never understood why they removed it, that would solve the problem of stopping on the second lift and chances are the track ahead would be clear by the time the train got to that brake.

You would think it would be unlikely to need it not running five trains simultaneously, but yeah, I've seen the set up before as well.

Corkscrew has not run three trains since 2011. 3 train op has stopped on the ride because it is easier to hit interval with two trains and get better numbers, than have three trains that stack decreasing hourly capacity. One train is rotated off every year be it red or white. Blue has stayed on since 2011.

Oddly enough, blue is off this year.

It wasn't as of Coastermania/opening weekend. Was White/Blue this year.

It wasn't as of my Thursday trip. Red and White.

Makes sense if Mine Ride was running three trains although maybe the crew needs a kick in the rear if they were having trains stop there consistently. It takes about 1:50 for a train to reach that point in the ride. I know the parking of the train in the station there really sucks, but getting a train out in under 1:50 consistently seems like something that would be easily achievable. I never recall it stopping there so consistently in the past.

Hmm..I haven't been since CM, so maybe they finally gave blue a break..it needed it. 11, 12, and 13 all had blue train for some reason I don't know why. Ah well, it did give my favorite rides, and honestly looked the best IMO.

Fixed the explanation for you. ;)

Maverick is divided into 5 areas and 4 blocks (areas are where the ride can multimedia aka two trains moving in sync) those 5 areas are dispatch rear (rig hr ousted the front of the station), stain front, station rear, waiting front, and waiting rear (those last two are rig hr behind the station) the blocks are the in this order - dispatch front/lift > coasting 1 (top of lift till first part of the tunnle) > launch/coasting 2 > pre waiting. (pre waiting is the last brake section behind the station and the flat tirn).

Maverick can dispatch the next two trains when the 2nd train of the previous dispatch is entering the 2nd corkscrew. Same with dispatching the 2nd train. This will cause the trains to cross throughout the course. The reason for the train slowing in the tunnle is because the train in front of it has not cleared coasting 2.

And random fun fact yes you can safely have two trains in the tunnel. Tho it most likely will never happen with loaded trains.

^^Truth..however unfortunate..yes that sums it up..But they sadly won't go anywhere. I just wish the policies this year that are pathetically stupid went away. Asking guests to tug on the belt. Load 1 only clears from the front, etc..just..butchered.

I find it funny how they say in the queue for Maverick that it could potentially have a rollback. Besides the time when it first opened (I think even before it opened to public) as seen in a YouTube video, has it ever had a roll back. I know it valleyed last year but that's different.

Last season I saw a rollback, but I believe it was controlled because someone had a cellphone out

If the lift sequence were aborted for any reason (E-stop, power failure, etc.) then you would get that roll-back. Remember, Maverick does not have anti-rollbacks on it.

Mine Ride stops on the second lift mostly because it takes a year and a half to park the train in the station, and for whatever reason it is not set up to allow a train in the station, a train in the tunnel and a train on the safety brake. Think about what is going on there when that happens: that means there is a train in the station, another train between the tunnel and the safety brake, and the third train on the second lift. If you watch the crew...yes, it takes longer than it should to load the train because of individual seat belts, individually checking seat belts, and the problem of trying to secure lap bars that are way too tight because of the seat cushions. But they really do move pretty quickly, and they don't waste a lot of time once the train is ready waiting to get it out of the station. But when the train leaves, it takes far too long for the next train to even begin to come in, it comes in much too slowly, and takes far too long to park. By the time the next train is ready to unload, the train just released is already cresting the first lift. There is no way to keep up with that.

I'm just glad they do still run three from time to time. I think with a bit of tweaking they could probably do it efficiently. They always used to, back before they took out the two block brakes and put in the new brakes and control system.

It's so weird to me that most of the new control systems at CP have actually been a step backward (at least in terms of efficiency) as compared to the old ones. Blue Streak, Mine Ride, and Magnum just to name a few. Magnum is actually operating quite nicely now with the removal of the loose article bins although the station parking and unneeded trimming of the train moving in from the readies still could use some work.

As Rideman said, when the launch is aborted you get a rollback. I was on it a couple of years ago when it rolled back after climbing about 3/4 of the way up the hill. Just a very slow trip back to the bottom, speed held in check by the linear motors.

^ We experienced the same on the launch hill about four years ago. The most eventful part was the drive wheels pulling us off the LSM's to relaunch.

I was pretty surprised to see that Magnum removed their bins. And i'm not sure if it is getting use to the new computer system or what but I actually found the capacity slower than before. Although CP wasn't so busy when I was there, Magnum still was operating 3 trains and as I knew before they would always dispatch after the previous train would clear the second hill...now it's more like after the pretzel loop or second tunnel.

The bins were removed at Magnum because the station was getting too crowded at the exit. The crowded exit resulted in taking longer to unload and load new riders and trains were stacking, thus reducing capacity.

Has that been confirmed, or are you speculating? Because Dave's explanation sounds far more likely. In short, the new control system is too slow and doesn't allow for enough time for folks to use the bins.
