Yes. I saw the new concrete from the Skyride station when I was at the park yesterday, but wasn't sure what to make of it. Based on what's going on around the park it could be for the new ride, or it could be Halloweekends related.

This part of the season is bittersweet, the shows will begin to end, but the park transforms into Halloweekends mode, which becomes my favorite time of the year to visit.

This year went by fast!

(Had this post typed up yesterday in regards to dark ride / theming, but never finished submitting.)

I don't think it takes tens of millions of dollars to make a good dark ride or to add some personality / wonder to various rides throughout the park. I wish Cedar Point and other Cedar Fair parks would focus on adding something exciting to one or two rides each season.

Take Maverick's tunnel for example. The train coming at you in the tunnel with crossings and such was a great idea. Though the LED light panels on the walls never made much sense to me, a simple train crossing sign when entering the tunnel followed by a deep train horn and a simulated train light coming at you would have been awesome and simple to maintain.

I think small changes like that throughout the park would go a long way for some guests and stir up extra excitement for each new season. Hopefully it's only a matter of time. Maybe Valravn will mark the start of adding a bit of wonder with VR or something...

I'm not familiar with how important the utility/storage building next to Mean Streak is, but that looks to be quite a bit of land to fit a dark ride.

That entire department could be moved off point with no disruption to daily/yearly operation at Cedar Point. I would venture a guess that as the years move forward, more and more offices that do not deal directly with daily operations will be moved off point. Nothing within Planning & Design needs to be on point.

Hard to tell what it could be at this point, they just started framing that this morning, they did put boards over the gap in the fence now as well.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's for something temporary that will be used for the announcement.

It looks more like 4x8 sheets of sheetrock rather than formed concrete.

Nope.. That definitely looks like fresh concrete, down to the way the old slab on the bottom right of the middle picture is cut back at a diagonal, and the new slab meeting up with it.

It is definitely new concrete, that is certain. I'm just not sure what the new structure is for at this point.

Zooming in on it, you are right.

I almost looks like they are building another fence.

If i had to guess i would say that they will have the virtual reality app ready so people will be able to see it. Like you will walk behind the fence with the app infront of you so it looks like you are walking under the ride.

argues just for clicks

Let me know when that concrete is dry.

I wonder how the Valravn in the logo became a knight :)

Maverick does have long lines - certainly a testament to its poor capacity. But in 2013 it barely cracked a million riders. Good for 8th just on the list of rides Tony provided 2013 ridership data for. That doesn't scream "highest yearly ride totals".

https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog-article/online-fun/2014-By-The-Numbers

In 2014 Maverick had 1,153,896 riders for 6th highest total on a coaster and a top 10 ride in the park. Which can be a little skewed as they count Camp Snoopy as one ride/area instead of individual rides. I would say based off the numbers that one can conclude its a pretty popular ride, with better capacity and reliabilty it could break the top 10.

Just saying thats a lot of foot traffic going to an area that Mean Streak is in and its ridership is no where near that. I'm sure it's been noticed by the park.

Personally, if the announced ride is a Dive Coaster I for one will be extremely happy and it will undoubtly be a people eater.

Well, he started off as a simple page. Then he served as a squire...

I'll agree that P&D doesn't need to be on the peninsula, but the proximity to the main offices is probably very helpful.

Also, that area is where they house the fire trucks, the ambulance, and the small building next door is the fire department. I'm not sure if the fire guys would be willing to move further away from Perimeter Road.

They call me Sheehan.

I just can't wrap my head around the whole deal with this app.

Surely Cedar Fair does not employ full time app devs (I could be wrong?). Even if they did, there is no way they could be so ignorant as to build and release an application that would allow another dev to de-compile it, leak the ride, and bust up their whole announcement.

It's one thing if someone squeals. That can't really be prevented. It's another thing to basically release the ride to the public days in advance because you were too crappy of a developer to think people wouldn't try to crack it.

I just can't see how the company can be that stupid.

That kind of app dev is typically contracted out. I could be wrong, but I doubt that they have staff people who are qualified to do 3D software.

And it's totally easy to decompile an Andoid app and look at the code. Crazy easy, even. You can upload the package to a web site and it will make a zip file with all of the code and assets inside.
