Ugh, I can't disagree more.

I didn't mean it would be better. I agree with you about Forbidden Journey. It is my current favorite dark ride and there's nothing in a close second. It got my hopes up pretty high and I ended up being a bit disappointed with Gringots. I guess what I meant was perhaps something like this technology will give more parks the ability to create a realistic world in which to tell a story without breaking the bank. Not ever park has the pockets of Disney or Universal.

So, by interesting, what I guess what I meant was it would be interesting to see how well this tech works. I was pretty impressed with just viewing Valravn on the Oculus. That was just a roller coaster with no story and I was just standing there. Even at that, I got a bit disoriented. I never got to experience Virtual Reality like that before. It was pretty cool. The really cool part was being able to look in any direction and see anything going on. The closest to VR that most people have experienced are those cheesy 4d motion simulators. You are presented with a single perspective. It's not very immersive. While many dark rides provide a 360 degrees of viewing capability, your story is usually broken up by the need to move from room to room. Forbidden Journey definitely took us to the next level in trying to marry both of these together in as seamless a fashion as I've ever seen.

While having a combination of real and VR elements wouldn't be possible with the Oculus as it is today, It would allow for the fully immersive experience in a seamless manner.

Seems like the future of this technology would be to avoid building the huge pile of steel, not to combine it with the huge pile of steel.

But when you don't build a huge pile of steel you get something like this, and even the best motion sims can't hold a candle to the real deal. See also: The CoasteRider X-Press

It's kinda cool that you could ride Rougarou in 1999.
