Valravn Goes Vertical--Construction Starts

Also, it looks as though there will be a solid wall in that area (rather than a fence which is used everywhere else), presumably to help drown out some of the noise from the coaster.

There are also fireworks launchers in the immediate area surrounding the Iron Dragon queue. I think that alone qualifies for closing down during Luminosity.

No trees were harmed in the sending of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

In 2014, I tried to get on Mantis once about 15 minutes before Luminosity and was turned away because of the fireworks.

I thought it was interesting that Rougarou ran during the show in 2015.

My only guess to that is maybe it had something to do with the specific type of pyrotechnics they were using that night.

Something tells me they are not going to close down their new coaster for luminosity.

Or wind direction that was blowing towards the ride.

^^ I think it's far enough away where they won't have to do that.

Iron Dragon is closed due to the proximity of the fireworks. The crowd for Luminosity would be between Valravn and Iron Dragon, therefore it is a safe bet Valravn will not be closed due to the fireworks for Luminosity.

The risk isn't the pyro, it's the lasers. They'll have to make sure they don't strike the new ride or its path.

While watching the crews start the dive loop today, I realized how similar Valravn is to Gatekeeper. Though the ride experience is sure to be completely different, the two rides share a lot of the same features. From a track layout perspective, I would have to say these are the two most similar rides in the park

  1. Both have an Immelmann (Granted they roll opposite directions)
  2. Both have a dive loop (Roll the same direction, right over left)
  3. Both have a roll feature, rotating the same way, left over right (360 GK, 270 VR)
  4. Both have a counter-clockwise downward helix
  5. Both have a bunny air time hill before the station breaks

And oddly enough the sequence of the last four similar features (2-5) happen in the same order on both rides.

Jeff, I was mainly talking about why ID has to close for the show. But yes, the lasers will need to adjust to accommodate Valravn.

A lot of you won't remember the old laser show, but it resulted in the closing of the CP&LE Railroad , Iron Dragon and WIld Cat because of pyro, and the Giant Wheel AND Space Spiral because of the laser positioning.

As cheesy as parts were, I loved the old -huge screen- huge area- laser show. Especially when they had the fire balls.

But the screen was ugly and the show was the same for years. Granted though, I did watch it quite a bit.

The ending with Live And Let Die, while cliche, was really fun with all the fire going off around you. You could really feel it.

I miss the old monster movies they used to play during Halloweekends.

The one thing I will never forget was when Jim Thome returned to the Indians and they were playing that first game on the big screen. When Thome was up to bat, there must've been at least 200-300 people singing by the screen watching him bat. When he got his first hit as an Indian in about 10 years, there was a huge round of cheering an applause. It was one truly great moment, and the only reason I wish the screen was still there. Albeit, there are plenty of more reasons for why I'm glad it's gone, but that was simply one great moment.

My wish is that the Cleveland Indians win the World Series in my lifetime. Came so close in 1997 and ended in such bitter disappointment.
