Labor day crowds?

DSShives's avatar

Both Saturday and Sunday were extremely busy but Sunday was the busier day. Saturday, Valravn's fast lane was was almost an hour. MF was 1:30, gatekeeper was an hour. Sunday, the lines were longer. I was going to attend the Valravn ERT Sunday but didn't care about waiting until the line cleared out so I just went back to the boat.

Getting ready to walk over for early entry. Park should be slower today.

Any wait time reports today would be much appreciated as I am on the fence about going....thanks!

I'm in he park. Much slower early entry than Saturday or Sunday but still has a feel it will be fairly busy with the traffic I saw entering the park from gatekeeper. It's a beautiful day here. I'd come out regardless. I'm hitting rides this morning then heading over to close out soak city.

So far, Valravn is a 45 min wait, MF is 10 and gatekeeper is a walk on.

To answer the question of this topic, lines are generally short on Labor day. I've done Labor day a lot in the past and can tell you the volume in the park is definitely low. I was going to go today, but since I just used most of my check on this week's rent, I decided not to. I'll definitely be there with Thabto(Brian) on September 11th.

I have 5 tickets for today if someone wants to drive to mentor.

I'm curious how long after close it took to empty the lots yesterday. At 9:30 they were still almost full. Many busy nights you get a certain amount of early leaving people but I think every person who left early in the day yesterday was replaced by someone that showed up late.

Just took a look at the webcams, looks pretty light to me at least right now.

Last year Labor Day was great except for the weather it was so hot that a 10 min line for Millennium couldn't keep us there. The tunnels on Magnum were like ovens but for anyone that could take the heat it was an awesome day. Today will probably be decent but it just didn't work with my schedule this year.

Just came up and we are turning around.. Soak city lot is full, other lot is busy. Wait times look ok on the app but hard to believe based on the amount of cars here.

That still sounds better than yesterday assuming you didn't wait an hour to get to the parking lot.

Yesterday, people were parked in the grass. I went Saturday night for a couple hours and waited about 45 minutes for Valravn. Wasn't bad, but there was a crowd.

The Saturday crowd felt like a typical Saturday. Not too bad. Spouse tried to take the kids on Sunday to meet up with my parents after church and there was NO where to park anywhere. She wound up dropping them off and leaving to visit me at work (don't worry, the kids left with parents). Reports from my mom was that the entire queue for MF was full, Blue Streak was over an hour wait, Mean Streak had the longest wait it has had in 20 years lined up out to the railroad. I entered the park after work at about 930pm for a late dinner and the parking lot was still packed with a long line to get out. There was a sea of people even up to closing time. Leaving the parking lot, I can't answer how long it took to empty out. I almost waited in the line to drive out, but made my way to the perimeter road exit (at the end of the handicap row.

For the record, we're leaving KI just now. It's bring a friend (up to 4) for twenty bucks. It's also 1$ food day, cokes, cheese pizza, hot dogs, cotton candy, ice cream, etc. Needless to say, it was slamming, so it was a FP+ day for us.

Sunday report...

Got a late start due to picking up a friend of my daughter. Bought two bring a friend tickets about 8:50, so we were near the back of the early entry lines at the main gate...not my normal choice (prefer to be in the parking lot at 8:30 and walk back to marina gate for early entry).

This was the list of what we rode and our approximate wait times. My daughter's friend is not a big thrill seeker, which changed our patterns quite a bit, including 3 rides on CCMR. We split up a few times because of this too, which is documented.

9:15 MF - 10 minutes, by the time we got off, wait was already 20+ minutes

Group 1
9:35 Maverick - I would have put the line at about 30 minutes already, when it first broke down, I figured we'd stay there until 10 and then move on. Luckily, much of the line decided to leave before that and they started loading trains again about 9:55. When they started letting FL+ people in, we were on the stairs, so it was a bearable wait. We were on the break run when it appeared they had issues with the a restraint and ended up parking a train. We ended up sitting on the break run for 15 minutes. Not a good way to start the day.
10:35 Skyhawk - 1 cycle wait

Group 2
10:00 Iron Dragon - broke down
Skyhawk - no wait
Woodstock Express - no wait
Tilt-a-whirl - no wait

10:50 - drink break/wait for Gemini to open

11:05 - Gemini opens - we were on the second pair of trains of the day after they unloaded sandbags

11:15 - CCMR - 3 train wait
Skyhawk - 1 cycle
Group 1 - CCMR - 3 train wait
Group 2 - Wave Swinger - no wait

Walk past MF - easily 90 minute wait

Sky Ride to front of park - waiting for about 6 groups in front of us (while riding, my wife comments on how full parking lot is)

Lunch at car

2:15 - Cedar Downs - no wait
2:30 - DodgeEm - 4 cycle wait
3:00 - Troika - 2 cycle wait
3:15 - Big Wheel - 1 1/2 cycle wait

4:00 - Group 1 - All-Wheels Extreme
Group 2 - Iron Dragon - 30 minute wait

4:30 - Dippin' Dots break
5:00 - Blue Streak - 30 min
5:45 - Cadillac Cars - 15 min
Dinner at car

7:10 - Monster - 1 cycle wait
7:30 - Group 1 - Magnum - 30 minute wait
Group 2 - CCMR (didn't ask wait, but they were able to walk to CCMR, ride, and meet us at the Magnum Photo Booth)

8:30 Group 1 - Gemini - No wait
Mean Streak - 15 minute
Group 2 - Walk to Snoopy Boutique for souvenir, CP&LE RR

9:00 (Full group) CP&LE RR back to Funway Station
Rougarou - 1 train

9:30 Group 1 - Corkscrew (twice) - no wait
Group 2 - Power Tower Shot Up - no wait

I was originally going to do the Valravyn ERT, but decided against it. We left at 10:00, no problems leaving the peninsula.

I got 18 rides plus a show in 11 hours. My son probably had the most at 22 plus a show. We changed our patterns from the typical thrill seeking stuff and I thought we had a pretty good day.

Monday was very busy, and extremely hot. There was very little breeze until later in the day. We used our renewal FL+ so we didn't wait too long for anything, but regular lines were long throughout the day. Passed by Magnum at about 6:00 and the line was stretching almost back to the entrance of the queue. I'm guessing it was probably a 45 minute wait at that point. We headed out about 7:00, and the front had died down to the typical late day level, but there was a steady stream leaving the parking lots at that point, so I think everyone was getting out a little bit earlier than closing.

Valravn ERT wasn't that crowded. It started off with the line full only past the last set of switchbacks (the small one near the transfer track) and ended at nearly a walk-on. I got 5 rides in.

I went yesterday and it seemed like there was a lot of people walking around, but the lines actually weren't bad. Seemed like a typical weekday at the point.
