Hotels empty?

I have never been here this late in the season so I was just wondering is it typical that all the hotels in the area seem to be dead? We are staying in Port Clinton and the one across the street from us is "closed for the winter", but I figured that was because we were a bit away from the park. We took a trip up to the park this evening to make sure we knew how to get there and everything looked dead. The parking lot at Breakers Express was empty and all the properties on Milan road were dead as well. I've heard that the park has been really busy lately and I'm wondering are people just driving and not staying? I'm prepared that it will probably be chaos tomorrow and Sunday I'm not sure since it looks like it's almost guaranteed to rain, just curious if others have noticed what I have.

Ah ok, I'm from Kentucky and I don't think high school football is quite as popular, but I could be wrong. Darn, I was thinking we got lucky and it wouldn't be busy, it sure looks dead on the web cam tonight.

It got quite busy later last Friday night. Saturday started out pretty busy, then got slammed.

It is odd that gatekeeper isn't lit up on the webcam.

Edit: It appears they found the light switch.

During this time of year when the park is closed during the week Sandusky does seem to turn into a ghost town. Friday at about 5 or 6 you will start to see the traffic coming back into the area. And Saturday and Sunday it will be a mad house as usual. But come Sunday evening the entire area kinda dries up.

It's not as bad as it was in previous years with the Downtown revitalization (which still has a long way to go,) Kalahari, Great Wolf, ect. But in winter the area around the park gets a lot slower and quieter. I actually really enjoyed the off season and probably would have love to stay in the area, but the snow and extreme low temperatures of an Ohio winter forced me to Florida. Well that and if I wanted year round work in the Amusement Industry Florida or California where the best choices.
