Platinum Pass Upgrade/Renew Questions

I just recently upgraded my season pass to platinum via the park website. I chose the "renew" option rather than requesting a new card due to the extra fee associated with it. Is my old season pass card then going to show up in the system as platinum to the workers when trying to get in for parking or for ERT etc? Because it looks like a regular season pass and not platinum

Call the park and ask them. Be sure to ask for the Season Pass Center.

When we upgraded last fall, our passes were loaded onto our old passes and I had the same concern, but it works just fine. The only exception was a very nice employee at the Pagoda who had never seen one, but we told her what it was and everything was fine and she told us to enjoy the rest of our day at Cedar Point! (Lol!).

When I renewed and upgraded at the same time they let me get a new platinum pass for no extra charge. Just stop by and ask them.

I upgraded 2015 CP pass to 2016 Platinum Pass last year at HalloWeekends at Guest Services (had to renew in person and pay on full to get Platinum benefits at CP last fall; it was late, Season Pass Center was closed). Kept my red CP pass and it worked as Platinum the rest of our visit. Just went to CP last week for CoasterMania, the card was invalid at the resort gate. But the guy in the ticket booth was able to scan a Platinum Pass and I was all set, including the season drink plan I bought online in the spring.

Long story short, you will probably need a new card but they should be able to set you up at any ticket window.

Our red passes worked fine at all gates for Coastermania, including the all-season drink plan. Might get "real ones" before visiting another park, though.

Two somewhat trivial reasons to get a new card:
1. Sometimes the toll gates out front don't scan the code and just wave you through with a Platinum Pass.
2. FunPix: the new cards have a QR code instead of bar code. In theory, you are supposed to be able to had your pass to a roaming/entrance photographer and get the photos loaded directly versus taking a card to a booth. (This has not worked for me yet however)

Try the CP app. My Platinum Pass has the bar code, but I loaded my pass into the app.

In the app the pass is converted to the new QR code.

In theory the QR code should work with roaming photogs and any interactive locations.

I haven't tried it, yet My bar code platinum pass works fine at the kiosks in the coaster photo stations.

I got a new Platinum Pass during my Coastermania visit because I had one of the really old ones that didn't have the 8 digit code that some upgrades and online purchases ask for now. It was so old that some of the associates had never seen one with that design. Everything including my drink plan transferred with no issues. Unless some chains where I've had passes replaced/upgraded cedar fair seems to have it figured out.

Interesting. You had the exact opposite experience I did. They swapped my pass the day before CoasterMania. And it was still the blah Arrow/Vekoma loop design on the front. Thought I read somewhere it would be a design specific to CP or wherever you got the Platinum Pass. Oh well.
