Ohio developers announced plans last Thursday to open a sprawling $2 billion theme park and entertainment complex outside of Columbus so massive it would be four times the size of Disneyland.

The planned development, a 350-acre park called “Planet Oasis,” would include activities such as an indoor waterpark, BMX racing, and an area for indoor skydiving, according to a video highlighting the amenities of the development. The theme park development would also include hotels, restaurants, and a conference center.

Developers say Planet Oasis would be located in Ohio’s Delaware County along Interstate 71.

Anyone else hear anything about this? It Hits pretty close to to major CF properties... It doesn't seem as much theme park as more mixed heavy into sports and entertainment.

Blue Horseshoe, a major partner, already controls the land for the development to open in phases 2019, 2020 & 2021

Yes, it was discussed on coasterbuzz a few weeks ago:

With all of that video people will watch. Will there be Coasters, Thrill, Rides, and Family Rides added to that Park? If so what will Cedar Fair Do? I say PARK FREE, Lower all Prices to get more people involved at Cedar Point; the Coaster Capital of the World. That will keep Cedar Fair Park's Safe and not Down in Business .

I have no experience in real estate, development, marketing, or anything of any importance to this project...but I see fail written all over this. Yeah, Columbus is growing and a nice spot...yeah, it's in the middle of some major metro areas, but i've seen "plans" like this before...it's just too big, too much of a risk, and too wide spread I think to be a major success. What is their targeted audience?? Kids aren't gonna say, ah screw Disneyland let's go to Planet Oasis! I could end up eating my words in 5 years, but whatever.

Also, if this DOES happen, I don't think it will negatively affect Cedar Fair at all. If anything, it might help with a slight uptick in people making day trips to CP or KI, due to the relatively close proximity to this planned attraction. Just my uneducated opinions on this.

Side note : I would totally check it out if it happens. But I definitely would stop at CP on the way there or back :D

This seems to be a bunch of indoor activities like go karts, skydiving, skateboarding and bowling along with some outdoor swimming, an indoor water park and a conference center to support the hotel(s) if the rendering in the Dispatch can be believed. Seems like somewhat of a pipe dream but if it is competition for anything it would be competition for Kalahari, not CP or Kings Island.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Anybody else think it interesting that a development tentatively called “Oasis” would be planned near Columbus, Ohio?

I agree with Pete. It would probably effect Kalahari, Great Wolf Lodge, Maui Sands, Rain Waterpark, and Castaway Bay. Although with it being off of I-71, it would be good for a CP or KI day trip (if) person x, or family z planned it that way.

I don’t “think” we’ll have to worry about it negatively effecting CP or KI. Look at what happened in Auroa/Bainbridge Township. Six Flags made the park so big that it couldn’t keep up. Same thing once Cedar Fair took it over from Six Flags. First thing they did was cut down the size of the park.

So with the new amusement park in Columbus being as big as they “say” it will be, I don’t think CP, KI, or Cedar Fair will have to worry. Plus a few posts on here about the new park having go-karts. Not many Cedar Fair Parks have them left nowadays.

I like the mentality that xxxxxxxx isn’t competition of xxxxxxxx because of xxxxxxxx. That’s not very business wise. Everything is competition. Everything.

^ well said.

Also, Columbus sits square center of CP, KI, KD and SFGA.

I would think that the large Casino chain that is partnering and financing this project took that into consideration. After all, three of those parks were built with the population centers in mind.
