Maverick Shoulder Harness

Must be a body type thing as Maverick’s restraints are the most comfortable of ANY coaster in the park to me. My shoulders never hurt on the ejector and there is no headbanging.

Yes I much rather have a vest being and feeling the push against the soft restraint during the ejector than a hard restraint.

What is an example of a ratcheting vest? Rougarou or Gatekeeper? If you’re referring to Gatekeeper (and Valravn’s) type style restraints, i agree. They’re not comfortable for me.

I think Mr. Nightclub here is talking about Raptor and Rougarou's restraints. When the hosts are lowering them, they make a ratcheting sound when they go down. Of course I don't really think B&M restraints are all that comfortable to begin with, but I can see where you guys are coming from. The vest restraints are a little bit of an improvement but I don't really like how you can't put your hands up and there's a lot of pressure on your crotch. But Maverick's OTSRs are perfect in all honesty. They're safe, they're comfortable, and you can put your hands up. With all the complaints about Maverick's restraints, we glossed over one ride in particular: MaXair. My. God. The restraints on this thing pretty much crush your groin and shoulders.

^Ratcheting vest is probably the locking vests that came with Gatekeeper (but were modified to not lock by the end of its opening season) and still exist on X-Flight at Six Flags Great America, where the vests lock as they get tighter, basically strangling you on the brake run (especially if you're tall.)

The Ratcheting Vests were introduced on gatekeeper, they continually got tighter as you went through the course of the ride to the point people could not breathe or your collar bones were bruised heavily. The discomfort affect was dependent on your body type.
It was simply inexcusable that anyone ever had to experience that.

Absolutely absurd

It was ridiculous that B&M, a company with a perfect safety record, thought they had to redesign their tried and true OTSR - A restraint that nobody ever really had an issue with, for something that half of all riders find uncomfortable and restrict any movement on rides that are super tame compared to many other manufacturers.

Pretty sure the B&M vests were developed for the Flyers first. I like them, personally.

As for Maverick, that is my favorite OTSR design. Although, what’s up with Hersheypark’s version on Fahrenheit and Storm Runner? I had to get really creative to squeeze into those and buckle the belt. But on Maverick and I-305 I fit so easily it makes me feel skinny.
