Speaking on records, anybody catch that Six Flags Facebook post yesterday claiming Kingda Ka to be the fastest in the world?

I did. And people jump on their 💩 like crazy.

I wonder how that false information slipped through the cracks over there at the Six Flags PR department? Whoever wrote that must not know of Formula Rossa, or they made a mistake in their wording and meant fastest in America?

At this point, about the only thing that would surprise me with this project is if they modify the existing tower, (other than maybe the spiral). I would not be surprised if they went for some height or speed record using the new tower. While admittedly quite unlikely, I would say 500’ on the new tower is more likely than changing the height of the existing tower.

Has anyone rode Formula Rossa? Pretending for a second that they are increasing the height thus means increasing the speed.

At what point are goggles needed or the speed is too much?

I rode Formula Rossa once in 2015.

The goggles were mandatory because the wind stirs the desert sands up and you don't want your eyes sandblasted at 150 MPH.

My recollection is that you hit trims immediately after the launch, which was lame.

After the launch, the rest of the ride was boring as its not very tall nor does it have an exciting course, and the speeds throughout aren't what the launch speed would imply.

You answered your own question

JoshBrown:

I will refer to the quote used a lot on here.

Those who know dont talk and those who talk dont know.

Seems to be how it usually goes.

So the video is from the YouTuber "Ghoster Coasters"

There claims are they spoke to the same individual that works for a construction company that gave Lake Erie Lifestyles the information on the crane with the bucket being there to inspect the welds for integrity.

That individual told them the reason the welds were being inspected was that there will be an extension to the peak of the current structure. The YouTuber continued to say that Cedar Point was "aiming for the height record again"

The exact figures for the height increase was not disclosed to the workers, they were only advised to inspect the welds and that is the reason why.

The same worker I guess told them before any footer were poured, that the launch was being moved back.

Now another thing that was said, and the Youtuber didnt say this came from the same source or not, is that the lauch is moving to the other side. So apparently launching up the twisted side.. but oddly they seemed to think, in the video that this sounded preposterous..

Which is weird bc they sound pretty dead certain of the tophat extension.

Lake Erie Lifestyles said today that the storage containers everyone has been pointing out contain materials for a rennovation of the golf resort.

Hopefully it is not the same construction worker who 2 months ago said that the top hat track was coming down on Monday.

That is the problem with sources like this. The information could be 100% correct or it could be 100% made-up and wrong. Or it could be somewhere in the middle of that spectrum.

Did any of you guys clear your browser cache? Might bring the button back. 😉

Sit tight fellas ;)

Visual inspection of a 20 year old superstructure (when they couldnt access the entire superstructure with the crane they had) is not anywhere near in depth enough to allow the underwriters to green light any major modifications or additions to the top hat structure. I just dont find it likely that "looking at the welds" will satisfy any pre-requisites to adding on to the tack length. Then we have the footers that were engineered for the exisiting structure. Including the weight and dynamic loading on the track. I don't see them digging new footers near the top hat, nor expanding what is there. Just my opinion. This isnt as easy as it is in a computer sim kids.

Tried everything from clearing cache to cookies and logging out and in. It's like my forum version updated too. It feels slightly different and I can't tell why.
