Top Thrill 2 Announced

I think the theme looks much better, definitely feels more like a race track than Top Thrill 1.0. I've never been to a YELLOW racetrack before. This one looks cool with the red and white alternating for the turns, just like a Formula 1 track.

As for the name, its good. It communicates that the ride has been improved and revamped as version 2. Somebody told me just last week that Cedar Point was "tearing down top thrill after it killed that lady, i was there over over the weekend and construction crews were taking it down". The 2.0 name communicates the new and improved ride!

I think there is still a small chance of a true rollback! Might be more rare with this much more highly computerized launch, but on a windy day don't consider a rollback out of the realm of possibility!

Sit tight fellas ;)

Their marketing team did a far better job on temporary branding for a construction fence than they did for the park's "new" crown jewel. Absolutely appalling.

I wish they had come up with this naming convention sooner. Mean Streak 2 would have been a much better name than Steel Vengeance.

Some smaller details I noticed. Looks like the fast lane's relatively unchanged. Still goes right to the station.

The speed zone gift shop looks significantly different. Artistic license, or are they renovating/rebuilding it? Maybe moving the coke stand there?

Unload is pretty clearly not on the curve anymore. Looks like a standard in one side out the other set up. Guessing it'll only load 1 train at a time.

The station over the track prediction turned out to be correct.

I think the ride looks terrific and I’m very excited to ride the back row.

the name, meh. I would’ve thought they’d do everything possible to distance themselves from the previous iterations reputation, but at the same time I guess the name also bring familiarity to the GP whom will be utterly confused if it was a drastic name change and retheme.

the CP Racing brand tells me they have more coming in the next few years. Almost looks like the CP Racing theme will be for that midway stretch and not just TT2.

I noticed the canopy has 8 supports in the rendering, whereas, there’s only 7 in reality. Wonder if that was a rendering error or if they’re adding an additional 1. I will say I’m not a fan of the canopy modification. One of the biggest things that made TTD so iconic was the pure excitement the crowd and the people waiting in the station had with riders. Now there’s segregation.

Overall, I think Cedar Point is lacking in creativity and imagination. The place making that was under Ouimet’s leadership is gone.

I didn't know how tall the rear would be, or how many passes, but the rest was exactly what all of the evidence implied.

This must be some next level gas lighting. I remember you arguing against a spike and any track reprofiling for the longest time. You also refused to state any concrete predictions. I don't think you get to claim some W now after implying for the longest time it was just going to be a lsm flip.

yep. I could do nothing but chuckle at Jeff's smug post, in light of his posts when the "lagoon maintenance" discussion began.... At least have the good graces to admit that .... oh, never mind...

The ride looks awesome.

the trains look awesome.

the name does not look awesome.

I remain confused why they made the back spike 420ft -- was it for visual symmetry alone? (101 mph won't get you even close to the top? Why not either accelerate it faster backward (certainly you could entering the LSM's at ~72mph from the rollback?) or make the tower shorter - or "just" 400 ft to still claim the odd tallest with two strat towers thing?

Make it run reliably zamperla!

Going back to the midway for a second; there’s a promo shot looking down from the spike and all you see on the right is just this mass of concrete with practically nothing else. After the great job they did with the boardwalk this seems like a letdown. A whole midway refresh here was much needed and they, at least for now, seemed to have skipped right over that.

Again, very excited for the final product. But having two years to really put effort into a new attraction and midway, they fell short in some areas.

The renderings seem to show an unload platform before the curve, however the path to exit would be unprotected. There also seems to be a covered path coming from the load /(unload?) platform. Not much room on the load side between the canopy vertical support columns and the load track. Having trouble visualizing how the platform will work. The view from above looks more like a rail yard than a race track.

If all we are complaining about is the name, I would say CP is going to hit yet another Home Run with this ride. I think it will be a great experience! I am also glad they got rid of the bright yellow!

That there Clark is an RV.....

It's kind of curious to me why they chose to keep arguably the worst part of the original name when they weren't afraid to "rebrand" previously with Mantis/Rougarou and Mean Streak/Steel Vengeance.

Also the choice to keep the queue in the "island" is kind of shocking to me. At least there will be more coverings to cool down under.

Not a big fan of randomly adding blue into the color scheme, especially that shade of blue. Something about it combined with the slate gray is bothering me.

All said, the ride is exactly what I expected it to be. Glad it's staying when they could have more than easily just pulled the plug on it completely.

Yeah, they're showing off a blue train as well. Will the other trains be different colors? Will they be named?

I like that name much better!

Ok I know we’ve talked about how massive the footer trio looks when it was just the footer themselves. But all three support bases are installed now and it is WILD how huge it looks now

l don't think that's unload. It looks like load and unload are in the same place. The area you see with the unprotected paths appear to be back of house areas.

I think this is a wild overreaction. Yes, the name is just about as bad and unimaginative as it gets, but there's nothing in the park's recent history to suggest they don't have what it takes to make an area look great. The Boardwalk is pretty great for the most part, and we have no idea what else they have planned for the TT2 area next year and beyond.

But the name... I would love to comb through the names and themes that didn't make the cut if this is what rose to the top as the one to go with.

Brandon

I'm starting to think that Jeff and Dj are the same person

Besides the name, my only real wish is that they pushed the acceleration and speeds a little bit more...make the train go a little bit higher up the top hat before the rollback, and a little bit higher up the spike before descending into the final launch.

An extra 50 feet and a 1-1.5 m/s^2 boost in acceleration would probably go a long way in making this match the "top thrill" of the previous iteration of the coaster, given the naming.

It is a great concept and design, I just wish they pushed the LSMs a little more to more closely resemble the "oomph" of the original ride.

Everything is good to me, excited to ride! I still think they could have had the ultimate slap to the face by making the spike 457'....

Wonder what the keychain will bring in 2024?

Ahhhhh C.P. My Happy Place!

Agreed. That blue doesn’t go well. 😂 Who was in charge of this? Yikes.

Cannot wait to ride, regardless. Excited to see the lighting package (tho not of done by the same group as the rest of creative.)
