Top Thrill 2 Announced

Not that this matters much but I believe Falcon's Flight will have 3 launches so the records will be short lived.

^ Where are you seeing this? There's a 'official' POV from 3 years ago that is light on details and then a bunch of fan recreations. It doesn't even have a RCDB page yet

Yes, Jeff traditionally knows or has had some inside information in the past. What makes him so successful is that he can keep a secret, and has that character and integrity.

There used to be a famous saying around these parts when GTTP was around: "Those who know don't speak; those who speak, don't know"

Yes, aware of all of the above. I've been around since before the GTTP merger as well.

Misdirection is different than keeping your mouth shut, but can't really criticise someone for doing what they need to do to maintain the perception that they can keep a secret.

Just pointing out what I have perceived over the years.

Anyone else feel like they should have been able to go faster than 74 mph on the first launch?

Maverick's LSM launch is 0 to 70 in a distance of 400 feet.

The original TTD's launch was about 600 feet from the Christmas tree to the hydraulic building. Yeah, heavier trains than Maverick, but also 16 years of LSM technology improvement, so let's assume the scaling stays constant. That would correspond to 105 mph on TT2, which is probably around the speed most rollback occurred at (considering that the ride usually ran in the 110 mph range on most days).

But maybe limiting to 74 mph is just a ride experience / capacity decision.

Did people at Six Flags Magic Mountain complain when they renamed "X", "X2"? I don't remember (actually I don't care).

Yeah, emulating Six Flags level of creativity isn't exactly what I expect out of Cedar Point's team.

"Wild Mouse" is another example. Yes, the Boardwalk is great and I love the ride itself, but I guess I'm just used to more creativity. To have 2 rides back to back with a generic name like Wild Mouse and a retread in "Top Thrill 2" leaves a lot to be desired.

And to not have any sort of area reimagining or reconfiguration is a missed opportunity too. I'm sure it'll look nice, but from what we've seen so far, I'm not getting the sense that it's a priority. That's on leadership.

"Wild Mouse" is a tip of the hat to the park's history, and makes sense as that whole new area is a similar tip-o-the-hat. My grandma loved that they brought that name back, because she remembers riding the original "Wild Mouse" with my mom when she was little. It closed in the 60's.

We probably all mostly agree that Top Thrill 2 would not have been our first choice.

Why is nobody asking the REAL big question? Because I want to know if the Magnum bathrooms are also getting a reimagining. A new formula for spills, so to speak. Heck, I'm sure Zamperla could install their new lightning toilets.

I'd assume Iron Dragon is down the rest of the season.

One of the live streams I was watching Tony mentioned that Iron Dragon was scheduled to be open the rest of the season.

MillieMichael:

Does anyone know what PHP stands for? I remember seeing that hashtag in a lot of twitter posts.

Tony also mentioned in this live stream that PHP's meaning hasn't been released yet.

Last edited by Aaronosmer,

The lights in the reveal video you are referring to seem pretty similar to these starting lights. The F1 engine sounds at the end tell me the christmas tree lights aren't making a return.

Which makes sense given that the "dragster" portion of the theming is longer a part of the experience. That's the only motorsport that uses that particular light arrangement and sequence.

That unit of a diagonal support is what appears to be the home of that large footer just behind the station that has been hotly debated the past few months.

Also...what a freaking headchopper at 100+MPH with that canopy 😳

As is the rest of the video.

That’s a really interesting point about PHP and not yet knowing the meaning.

Looks like you might get a good "head chopper" moment coming back thru the outside of the station. Kind of also like the vertical spike with no twist. Can't wait to ride it!!

So, how long do we think the opening day line for this is going to be? My guess 3-4 hours.

I mean at least we avoided Top Thrill Plus Max

Geez, they can't get it right on the title nor the body of the article. They claim it's the tallest fastest coaster when complete.

I rode this today, but I did not look up its skirt to see the shape of its sheer keys.

(Have been desperately waiting to make a sheer key joke, and unfortunately this was the best I could do.)

Someone had a great point about folks being bummed about speeds

74 mph is still Top 30 fastest coasters on the planet

101 is Top 5

and obviously 120 is #3

None of the launches on this coaster are slouch launches at all

I guess the only issue I have with the launch speeds would be that intense 0-120 in 4 seconds, that was incredible on TTD. I will miss that, but having a roll back then launched backwards at 100 mph, that's a pretty good trade off IMO. Not to mention two (2) back to back 400 foot plus drops.
