Top Thrill 2 Pit Stop, Episode 9: Raise the Flags

I do like the angle at the top of the fence separating ride from midway, it adds some character to plain old fencing.

I wonder why they chose to angle it outwards rather than inwards. I would imagine if it was a safety feature such as is customary at many tracks, it would angle inwards to assist in harnessing any flying debris. For the many years that the crews where I worked set up the track for the races it was mandated to face inward.

This is not a criticism, just an observation of it as the angle may have a different purpose such as preventing curious ne'er-do-wells from climbing over. Or, it means nothing at all.

Paul Tracy - those are days long ago.

I think it is angled that way to keep people out. As you note, if it were to catch debris it would be angled the other way. And the fence would need to be taller as it looks to be at best at track level.

the bend is inward because it looks cooler from that side of the fence for the people. The fence is for aesthetics only, Its not like we expect actual deadly debris and shrapnel to be cascading off of this thing! If history is a lesson this ride has a wonderful track record in that department. I’d gladly rest a fetus on top of that fence without any second thoughts ;)

The track being higher than the vertical portion of the fence is likely the reason it is bent outward. If it bent toward the track, there would be unmitigated line of sight between the queue and the trains going by, somewhat negating the entire purpose of said fence.

Or to keep people from throwing spice packets and other things at the riders.

Looks like ride ops won't be able to check lapbars and such until the gates close here as well.

Love how far up the spike you go! Wish the roll back was a little higher up the top hat, but this looks like a ton of fun.....

Is there a stopper at the end of the rear spike? I haven't seen one.

I hear they're just going to have this guy sitting on the top of the track.

-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut

That guy and gravity really ought to be enough.

No stopper at the top of the rear spike. Mike and Tony briefly discussed it in their TikTok live, essentially just stating there’s plenty of technology that exists these days to ensure that would never be a concern.

Sounds like something Boeing would say.

Promoter of fog.

That seems very RCT.

And we all know it’s impossible for Dragster to get stuck at the crest of the top hat.

Looks like the lockers are gone, no longer needed, or just relocated?
