Because shuttles are quick and painless..

Nobody really minds spending a nice, relaxing 1 hour shuttle trip to their car and back for the sunscreen and a sandwich. ;)

How about 2017 Beach restoration- dredge high sand away from beach to increase water depth, hire ocean-trained lifeguards to allow swimming in the kiddie pool...oops I mean lake.

Top_Thrill_Tyler's avatar

It's quite a risk for the park to allow swimming in the lake at all. It isn't a controlled environment like a pool that lifeguards can easily watch at all angles, where the depths are uniformly marked throughout and the conditions are generally stable. Rip currents and storms that can form quickly over the lake have serious potential for drowning. "Ocean trained" lifeguards would have to risk their own lives to save guests in storm conditions or high waves. You see how certain people actually blamed the park for the guest hopping the clearly marked fence and getting killed? It would be much worse for the park when the inevitable guest disappears from the surface of the lake and is never seen again. The park would have to answer how a guest drowned off of their own property in an area with lifeguards around. It's not worth it for them.

As much as the park started as a swimming beach I can see the liability end. At least two bodies were pulled from the lake(that I know of)in Lorain county in the last two months or maybe less I don't remember exactly how long ago the little boy was but within the last two weeks or so my husband pesronally brought one in while working. Neither of these was close to CP but I'm sure this is what comes up anytime a deeper, larger swimming area is considered.

I was at the beach today and there seems to be a change in policy. People were swimming everywhere outside of the life lines in deeper water. There were people to the left and right of the roped off area and past the roped off area in deeper water. I entered the water on the far left side of the beach and walked in deep water all the way past the roped off area to the part of the beach where Windseeker is. It is almost like they were guarding the roped off area as normal but let people swim wherever they want with the understanding that the lifeguards were not protecting them outside of the roped off area.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Living about 100 ft from the ocean with life guard whistles blowing in the distance as I type, I think as long as people know how to swim they should be allowed to go reasonably farther out than the protected area. If a lifeguard feels that a person is not a great swimmer then they can and should restrict them from exiting the protected area. If a person is a strong swimmer then they should not have to crawl in the shallows and they should be allowed to enjoy the water as it was meant to be enjoyed. Lake Erie is a kiddie pool compared to the Atlantic Ocean and if people here can do it, then people swimming in lake erie should have no problems, especially with protective lifeguards. When Lake Erie does get rough, which I am fully aware it does, swimming is not allowed anyway.

My concern would be that there will always be people who know how to swim, and people who think they know how to swim, and there's no way for a lifeguard to tell the difference.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

^Believe me, its very easy for a trained eye to tell the difference between a strong swimmer and a weak swimmer. You just need to watch the way they react to rip currents and swells. My brother after all is a lifeguard here in Rockaway and he has to deal with hundreds of people in the Atlantic Ocean with no protective nets and larger waves and rip currents. Basically, a trained lifeguard can easily tell the difference...

I really hope they go all out in 2020 (150 year anniversary) tbh I'd be okay with them doing nothing from now till then and just come out with multiple coasters and thrill rides and in my day dreams it would be a dark ride if not already built and the tallest coaster title again and come up with a new design other than polar type or ttp type

Side note I love B&M coaster but u can't stick with them forever need to switch to intamin or anything different I hate that every year it's B&M

Until Intamin is able to prove themselves with better reliability, I don't see the park working with them again anytime soon. B&M provides reliable, high capacity rides. Going to them is a no-brainer if you want to keep your guests happy and be able to move them through line quickly.

Although, unless B&M creates a new type of coaster, Cedar Point is running out of options from them.
Here's the list...
Flyer

I realize they don't have a B&M gigs or hyper, but I really don't see either of those happening. I also don't see a flyer happening, but I guess anything is possible.

What does any other manufacturer offer that B&M doesn't? They just about exhausted all available types of coasters. All that's really missing is a wild mouse and a boomerang. And I'm sure there are lots of concepts being worked on at this time. Who knows what the future could bring. I'd like to see Cedar Point go to Premier or Mack.

I would really like a replacement for Wildcat. I realize it's not a spectacular type of coaster but it had it's place in the lineup.

Last edited by Paisley,

I can see a family style wild mouse (ala Knotts) coming in the future. Now how about that dark ride for 2017? I'll take a coaster/dark ride hybrid even. Something like Exterminator at Kennywood would be interesting with spinning cars on the coaster track. Yep Wildcat is missed.... interesting to see what the future holds and where to put it??

^^I don't know about that. You would think a ride like STR would be hard to mess up, but somehow they managed to do that. MF is about the only ride they didn't screw up.

Wilderness Run seems to operate just fine... 😎😜

Actually, no it doesn't. There's a disconcerting jolt on the lift hill that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that the train is still safely on the track.

I do not think that the Blue Streak will get converted! I could see it renovated because of age but a conversion would take the one great woodie and classic element from the park. The same could be said about Corkscrew with them renovating the track and making it much smoother than no i couldn't see it! Now the Mean Streak/RMC Mean Streak i heard of and also heard of them doing another record breaker which i could only assume it be a hyper woody! Well Hybrid wood sorry guys i know how some get! Now with Intamin's great installations in the past years with Mach Tower, Falcon's Fury, Zumanjro:Drop of Doom and Lex Luthor's Drop of doom! I could see something on that level being used for Top Thrill Dragster! Now i would have loved for Cedar Fair to have done it before six flags, so for that reason i say they scrapped that idea long ago! I do not see them converting Cedar Creek into a dark ride! What i do see is the old Earthquake ride building being used! Since it sits empty or uses for staff breaks unsure which! I would love to see this park bring back multiple dark rides! For my list i could see them digging in the past for one and i could see a valravn inspired horror maze! I know they plan a trio tech dark ride in almost every park! So be odd to see where they put that! The rest of the letter which we don't know is real could be wise and decisive!
