Best routes to CP for 06?

Can everyone share the best TO and FROM routes via Cedar Point? I'll be coming from Portland, MI (Near Lansing) and know with all the 280,23, and other traffic, I was wondering what you guys are taking.

IE: Taking US23 South to I75 is OK, but taking it back, there is a lot of construction.

I'd really appreciate any good routes for this year (diff construction)

Im coming from Lansing and planning on taking I-96 towards Detroit and then branch off on 475 south which passes through Ann Arbor and then take I-80 till ur close to Sandusky...pretty easy route should take us about 3 hours and a half

Wicked Twista/Sky Ride 06

thats what I usually take.... but 23 is much faster...

Old Route: 96 to 275 (pass Det Metro Airport)
275 to I-75
I-75 to EITHER US280 or I80/I90

I might have to start doing that again...
Last year, US23 shaved about 15mins off my time.

Just go south, you'll find it.

I'm coming from Lansing and I do the 96 to 23 to the turnpike route. It is usually faster than going all the way to 275 but I may have to change my route depending on how bad the various construction is this summer.

The US-23 Interchange at 475 is closed, as is I-280 and they're doing a lot of construction on I-275 in Detroit.

I'll be taking either I-96 to US23 or US-127 to I-94 to US23, then I'll take it down to the turnpike.
Since i'm cheap, I'll only take the turnpike to the I-280 exit, and I'll get off there and and go south to OH-163, and take that over to OH-2

Although that may end up changing big time considering there's an E-85 station on Alexis in Toledo. :)

For updates on lane closures....

96-23-Turnpike-4 <---my favorite and fastest I believe. (I have never had trouble on 23)

96-23-Turnpike-4-2-250

96-275-75-Turnpike-4(-2-250) <----Longer

I always found OH-2 to take a long time.

Ben, from looking at MDOT's site, you would probably be better off taking I-96 instead of I-94. There is going to be work this summer on both US-23 and I-94 at the ramps, which includes some ramp closings. Though the closings they currently list would only affect you on your way back.

When i go i take I-94 to 69 to the indiana toll road then the ohio turpike, to Exit 118, which is I-250 there is no way im going by way of the detroit burbs, did that one before to much road constuction.

BEWARE:

Southbound 23 to 475 is closed, as well as westbound 475 to northbound 23. This will be until November. 475 takes you to and from 75.

Anyone taking 23 should continue south to the turnpike.

75 is reduced to two lanes from 275 to the Ohio Border both north and southbound until November.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Did you have an alternate route CPer? You and I probably take the same route seeing how we are near neighbors.

I figure traffic should not be to bad considering it will be a Sunday morning/night when I travel 75 from 275 into Ohio.

I always go 96-23-80. And hearing that 75 is messed up (is there any other way for it to be in summer) I don't think I'll be changing that route at all this year.

23 is just far enough to be considered out of the way for me. It's like a 13 mile hike in the other direction.

Ahh, but if 75 is its usual cluster-pucky self, then that 13 miles may not be such a bad idea.

Considering I'm leaving at 5:30 on a Sunday morning and probably will not encounter that area until 11:00 Sunday night, I should be ok for this trip.

But I might have to consider 23 when I head down the Thursday evening before Coastermania.

Yeah, I think I'm going on Saturday. Looking more and more like this is going to be a solo trip, so I'm gonna fly down 23 (as early as I can, I'm leaving my house around 5:30).

My new way around includes getting off at Sterns Rd Exit1 in Michigan, and finding my way to the Sterling gas station on Alexis to get E-85, and then proceeding down Jackman to I-475 and getting on and heading my normal route.

It sucks to drive through that area in the afternoon, though.

Anyone know what the closures are on 75 between 696 and the turnpike? Leaving from Sterling Heights tomorrow morning and am wondering if I'm going to see some problems trying to go this way (other than the usual morning traffic) or if it will be fine. Plan on going 696-75-280-80.

I've seen signs that 75 south will be closed at 696 (that could start today or tomorrow) and there are closures in/near downtown. Honestly, I think it would be best if you go out of your way a little, 696>275>75>80/90 *** Edited 5/11/2006 1:03:56 PM UTC by Coastern3rd***

I think we'll give that a shot. I've got a friend who works at the ren-cen. I'll see what he's found (a lot of times the construction zones aren't that bad because everyone finds an alternate route leaving the way open). If its that bad though, we may just go around.
