Chaos Dismantled

Go to rideaccidents.com and you will find the report of the chaos accidents in other parks.........

Maybe they could take Disaster Transport out of there and create the first indoor Floorless coaster. I know that's a bad idea. Heres another idea, we could just put a floorless in there anyway and just completely remove Disaster Transport. I like Disaster Transport personally, it's a great coaster to cool off in on a hot summer day, why get rid of it?!! It has nice dips and turns, it's pitch black and just an all out fun coaster. I would rather see Corkscrew be extended then see that ride go. Think about this fact. There are more people in that area of the park then Frontiertown with Mean Streak and White water landing. Think about that yall.

I don't know, I think CP would want to retain their record for a little while longer.

I love Chaos, but if they have to take it out for safety reasons, then so be it. I would rather not ride it that it being my last ride. (period)

If CP does put in a new coaster, I would rather see WWL taken out and something back there.

A spinning mouse will fit nicely into the Peanuts Platground area.

Yes, nicely.

I succumbed to temptation and read about 100 entries on rideaccidents.com. Ewww. I especially freaked when reading about the occupied coaster train diverted to a service bay with insufficient clearance for the heads of riders.

That web site a great tool if you want to sue an amusement operator, or scare the bejeezus out of someone who is ride-phobic. Of course, they usually mention the one incedent and not the 100,000 circuits completed safely. You wind up with redesigned, excessively uncomfortable seats/harnesses because of a lawsuit predicated by one idiot in another state stood up and fell off a ride.

The big parks don't have carnival rides held together with cotter pins, cinder blocks, C-clamps and bungee cords or (hopefully) operators stoned out of their gourds. On the other hand, you don't expect the axle of a flat like Chaos to break and recreate the disaster scene from the movie "Contact". Let's find a balance between "safe enough" and "way too safe".

Quite possibly one of the best quotes ever.

Where is that at? I've looked all over that site and can't find it anywhere.

It's under Fatalities 1973-1997 - Rollercoasters.

"Wednesday, July 9, 1980 - A 26-year-old male was killed at an amusement park in Missouri when the ride operator of a roller coaster mistakenly assumed that the train in which the victim was riding was empty, and switched the track to direct the train into a service area. The area in which the service track ran through was of low clearance, and the victim's head got jammed between the back of his seat and an overhead wooden beam. At least one other person was injured in the accident."

What a way to go...

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Sorry to bump an old thread but I did hear that Chaos today was disabled and no cars were even connected to the ride.

If its center was sitting in the usual location, and/or the backstop was still in place, then I think it's a safe bet that it simply isn't put back together yet. As the Monster wasn't a few years ago on opening day.

Chaos is definitely my favorite smaller ride ever. I hope they get it fixed and keep it.

I wouldn't say the ride is dismantled, just that the cars are not on it. The rest of the ride seems to be there and together.

Well in that case Shoot the Rapids is dismantled too. ;)

Based on the comment from Dick about making thrill seekers happy next year, I'm going to venture a guess that regardless of whether or not Chaos sells, that this will be it's last year in it's current location. Whether they move it somewhere else in the park, move it to another park, or just put it in storage. It wouldn't surprise me if they put it up for sale so another ride could be moved into it's space. Perhaps Troika. Though, I'm not sure the relocation of Troika would be of much benefit unless Disaster Transport was removed as well.

I hope Disaster Transport isn't removed. No matter how bad the effects have gotten over the years, I have always been a fan of the ride. No CP trip feels complete without riding it. The unique bobsled style, the humming and ticking noise of the lift, and all the memories riding it as a kid...

Sadly, reading that 2011 brings a new thrill ride and 2009 saw the end of Demon Drop, I'm getting a bad feeling about Disaster. Though, where would CP relocate Happy Jack's?

As for Chaos, I had a bad feeling its future was in jeopardy last year, so I made sure to ride it closing day 09, along with Demon Drop. It's a fun ride, but with its history, I think an amusement park would want to get rid of it.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the costs of removing Disaster Transport would be astronomical, and then you wouldn't even get much land from it?

Yeah, but Disaster Transport stands in the way of land that can be used, wrapping against the parking lot and turning down towards the Demon Drop location.

Chaos was only missing it's cars. The website lists it under thrill rides. The new park map gives it a number. Based on that I would think it will be operating this year. I hope so anyway.

Plus, Chaos is (somewhat?) unique to Cedar Point.

Does any other park still have one?

Does any other non-Cedar Fair park still have one?
