Jeff, what was the requirement to attend the Luminosity kickoff?

Had a great time at our first Coastermania today! Weather couldn't have been nicer and we hit a lot of rides. The lunch completely BEAT our expectations, holy cow what a meal!!!!! The freebie box was a nice touch, although I was a little disappointed that they ran out of smalls and mediums before our designated 1pm time slot (although they are free so how can I really complain). I was also bummed that we missed out on the boat tour as we got to the park at 9, so lesson learned next time we will show up earlier. I knew they were first come first serve but if not staying overnight it's tough to get there that early. All in all, a great day and a really nice perk to coaster membership members. Anyone hear what the extra "surprises" were during the day?

Sucks it didn't get passed along better but they had stand by lines for people without tickets to get on in place of no shows. The early times had most of the people arrive but, for example, the 7pm slot let 30 people from stand by in out of the 100 slots for that boat. My friend and I didn't have a ticket but easily got on, and I think all of stand bye at that time.

Think it might be there by Ripcord?
You pass it when you walk to the gate from the Soak City parking lot. There's a bench, a sign...

I wasn't there, so it must have been pretty high. :)

My first Coastermania was such an amazing experience. I'll post a trip report later, but I just want to thank the park for everything they did. They went above and beyond what I expected!

Top 5 CP Coasters: 1. Steel Vengeance 2. Millennium Force 3. Maverick 4. Dragster 5. Magnum
Coaster Count: 102

I was kind of wondering on Friday as I looked at probably 3,000 people getting free lunch and giveaways why they don't require people to register ahead of time and give their shirt size so they at least have an accurate count of how many to expect and know what they are getting in for. Maybe it's just extra merch anyway and it doesn't really cost them as much as it would seem.

CP has gone above and beyond for a few events that I've been to the last couple years. I do get irritated when I hear people complaining about something or just being ungrateful in general. Heard some lady with a lanyard saying repeatedly how "PISSED" she was on Frontier trail on Friday night during ERT. She kept saying how "PISSED" she was so many times that I didn't even get to hear what her problem was. Probably couldn't fit on Millennium Force or something or was aggrieved that Dragster was down. Get over it. The park doesn't owe you something because you have a coaster card and a fanny pack.

That cruise on Friday was fantastic. The food was fantastic. The ERTs were great. The giveaways were cool and mostly useful. Couldn't ask for anything more at CP on Friday.

Agreed, Matt. This was an incredible event where they completely obliterated my expectations. It was about twice the experience as any year since 2011, even missing the video competition. Would a Q&A new nice? Sure. Between the upscale lunch menu, survival kit, cruise, etc., it was a delight. They even had a homemade BBQ pit out of cinder blocks. All of this for the low, low price of free. Thank you, Tony and team!

I don't understand how people come away with such bad experiences. Hopefully they'll stay home next time since they'd have more fun there. They owe us nothing so to consistently show us a good time must not go unappreciated. :)

Oh, and Adam, did I spy a subtle Cedar Flags reference with the cupcakes at lunch? :)

I was there talking to the woman who was angry, her name is Lora, it was not coaster related and she is a good friend of mine. She was pissed because her daughter neglected her for two hours when she told her to meet her somewhere because she was hungry and food went cold, etc. then her phone died, and then still nothing even after luminosity ending. I'd be pissed too if I was a parent and my 16 year old daughter was running around in the park with a friend and couldn't reach out to her/respond. So yeah she was fumed, and she used the word pissed alot, and hell I would too, or worse, military does come out from time to time. But if I were in her shoes I'd be livid too.

So instead of being a judgemental dick in the future, how about you hold reserved judgement until you actually know what the issue entails, it just makes you look like more of an ass. She was grateful for the event and even praised it on the site she's from and all over her FB (first time at CP for a major event, only was there one time before with a group of middle school kids chaperoning them).

You've got a lot of nuts calling someone else out for being a dick given your track record. You don't know who he was talking about. Perhaps it's you who needs to check our judgment at the door.

Besides, it didn't sound like he was saying she definitely was complaining about CM. Overall it sounded more like he was annoyed someone was roaming around the park constantly complaining that they were pissed off. That's not the sort of thing that's pleasant to hear at the park..

^^^Simple miss communication bud, no need for that attitude.
