Friday May 5 thru Monday May 8

Friday May 5

I have to include Friday because we checked into Breakers at 4pm, then around 6, we played the first public round of the year on Challenge Golf. Yay, my claim to fame!! It was great to be back at the Point and Breakers. We checked out the new hot tub and hung out in the arcade for awhile. The claw machine had Care Bears instead of SpongeBobs this time, so we brought 8 of those cute little fellers back with us.

Saturday May 6

We were among the first in line at the Beach Entrance. After greeting Shawn and Sally, we anxiously awaited the National Anthem, but it never played. A couple minutes after nine, they let us in anyway. We managed to get on the second MF train of the year. As great as it was to be back on my favorite ride, she sure was slow this morning. Well, loading times were slow to start, and after two circuits, the line was getting long, so we moved on. After a rare circuit on Wildcat, we headed for Magnum, which was closed. Then we decided to hit Paddlewheel Excursions, where I did my best to crap on Captain Kirby's spiel. We were kinda avoiding Skyhawk at this point, since we figured the lines would be immense. To summarize the rest of the day, Maxair broke down while we were due to be on the next ride. It didn't reopen for the remainder of our trip. We finally waited 50 minutes to ride Skyhawk, good thing since it was also broken down the next 2 days. Overall, Skyhawk was good but not as good as Maxair. I'll never wait that long to ride it again... We studied the construction area trying to imagine what's coming... We eventually got our laps in on favorites Magnum, Blue Streak, and Gemini, and one more circuit on MF. A great day to open the season...

Sunday May 7

Once again a near riot at the entrance as ERT was changed from the advertised 9AM to 9:30, just like last year on opening Sunday. Started again with 2 circuits on MF. Loading times again were slow, and we were delayed by an unsuccessful attempt to load the third train, which I was thinking should have been done earlier. The rest of the day is a bit of a blur. We didn't ride Dragster since it didn't open until about 2 or 3 PM, and the wait was later posted as 1.5 hours. But we rode just about everything else in the park. We also revisited Midway Market for a quick binge. It sucked to have the park close at 8. We went back to the hotel and watched Team America: World Police on Showtime...

Monday May 8

This is the least busy day I have ever witnessed at Cedar Point. We headed for MF again and the two train operation didn't slow things down since the first train was able to consistently complete a circuit and unload before the next train was cleared to go. It didn't matter since the lines were so short, we were able to ride an unprecedented 8 times in a row in just over an hour, shattering our previous record of 6. We returned later for 3 more circuits making it 11 in one day!! I ran into the dude who passed 1000 rides last June(think his name is Tony). He said he was now at 1200 something. At around 4:30 he was on his 23rd circuit of the day. I just smiled and shook my head. Highlights of this day included a lap on Dragster, finally, and a circuit on Thunder Canyon, which also had unprecedented slow loading time. The guy loading the rafts was completely overwhelmed with the job. I took a bunch of pictures of Project 2007, with the construction crew going full force. We closed out the park as usual with a front seat ride on Magnum. It sure was sad to leave, but we'll be back in 17 days!!

Ride counts:
Millennium Force 16
Magnum 6
Mean Streak 5
Gemini 5
Wildcat 4
Dragster 1
Skyhawk 1
Maxair 0
Maverick 0

Highlights:
Everything!

Low Points:
-Inefficient ops by CP standards, especially for MF, Thunder Canyon, and Skyhawk. Chalk it up to opening weekend rust.
-Some dude was shooting himself with a needle while we were in line for Skyhawk.
-Maxair broke down right before we got on it...
-Cedar Point hangover as I got up at 6AM this morning to go to work...

Hay nice detailed trip report, I was watching the webcam on monday, and yeah very little people on the Main Midway. That is truly amzing 16 laps on MF, 8 laps in the morning!! Hope the crowds stay that low for my trip next week :)

Am I the only one who is frightened by the idea of a person stupid enough to stick himself with a needle at CP? How glad can I possibly be that he wasn't sitting next to me at 11:40am Saturday morning on the Magnum XL-200.

Is it possible he's got diabetes and needed an injection? Granted you'd think he'd do it out of line, but it may have been that the wait was taking longer than posted and he'd thought he'd be out before his next test.

I guess that's all a matter of context. I suppose if I were witness to that, I would probably spend some time evaluating the person's condition. You should be able to tell quite easily if the usage is medical or recreational. Better safe than sorry, I always say.

Well, if he pulls out a spoon to cook the injection, its a pretty sure bet that its not insulin.

I'd be willing to bet that it was a diabetic. Not that the guest should have done it in line, but still. I have a hard time believing a heroin addict that is so addicted he can't stand in line without getting a fix would be able to afford a day at CP.

Well, he was with two other guys, and they were being obnoxious and making jokes the whole time about driving stoned and other drug references, so I drew my own conclusions. They were right in front of us, and the incident I mentioned happened about 20 minutes into our wait.

I hope it was insulin, as you guys suggested, and maybe they were just talking stupid. But I was glad we got called ahead to ride on the cycle before them so we didnt have to sit by them.

I don't think I mentioned I was with my 11-year-old son, and the last thing I wanted to do was escalate the scene. I just kept myself between them and him.
