Maverick Trains

I'm not sure Tim but it's mandatory in Ohio now. The Ohio Department of Agriculture: Division of Amusement Ride Safety mandates all those type of things.

The ODA website will soon have the Amusement Ride Safety section to be able to see what they actually regulate and what the parks deem necessary.

Wildcat has safety gates?

It has "A" safety gate. One that you have to wait behind until it's time to board your car, or at least you're "supposed" to wait behind.

As I'm sure you know, you're only boarding one car at a time rather than a whole train so they don't need multiple gates.

That's how they get away with that one.

I'm not sure what the first ride was, but CP didn't have safety gates everywhere before 2004 and 2005 when the place when crazy with autospeils and overly cautious.

I'm not sure that it is a fact, but I guess the law said that all new rides would have to have safety gates following a certain year. CP did that and over the past few years, all the rides got them.

In recent years, all the coasters got gates. Iron Dragon, MF, and Mantis are the only rides I know that had them before 2001. Power Tower probably had them as well, all the flat rides had chains or locks on the gates.

Not to mention the electric locking gates that newer rides have, like maXair and Skyhawk.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Mantis was the first ride to open with gates already installed.

I thought that Mantis had its gates installed after it was built. I thought that Wicked Twister was the first with any type of auto gate.

Well WT came after MF, and I know for a fact that MF had air gates when it opened.

As long as they don't bring the magnetic ones to any rides at CP I'll be happy.

We were at Dorney and about to get on Talon. There were a couple of enthusiastic teenagers in front of us that were going to be on the same train as us. When the train entered the station and unloaded, they proceeded to release the magnetic lock on the gates. The two teens busted through the gate and it slammed back shut in front of us. Once the gate shuts after being released, it doesn't come back open again unless it's released by the ride op again. The operators of Talon that day were less than fantastic and you'd have been hard pressed to get their attention if a kid was falling out of his/her seat let alone get them to re-open the gates.

These gates would be fine on a two row configuration but not when there's four across. It wasn't a big deal since the lines were minimal that day but I could see them really hurting intervals on a busy day.

The gates should not have been locked in the first place. The ride ops had to make sure that every single person that was going to ride was in the train. That should be the responsibility of one ride op at least. Obviously all parks cannot be as organized as we are at CP. Doesn't everyone love the fact that we have such a great park to talk about.

I do not speak for all Cedar Point employees, my problem is that I take the job way to seriously. So don't let any of my comments affect the stand point of any other employee. Thats not good bootz. Personally, I'm very serious about some issues like safety. I've seen first hand what happens when people forget about that.

Other issues I don't care so much about but do it because I have to. For example I don't like wearing white shoes because they show dirt so much. Then again that is what SD-20 is for. :)

What is not good? I am very serious about the job as well, as I have stated above. If you are implying that I do not care about safety, then tell me why I would be working in Ride Operations. I care about safety 100%, if you weren't implying that I am sorry. And about the SD-20 thing, that stuff is magic for your shoes I'm tellin ya lol.

Where did you work Jump to Conclusions? And too me you sound like your management or something, you expect everyone to take it the same. Unfortunately, there are people who do not care about Safety and the Rules as much as me and you would. Safety is a top priority, and whither they like it or not it has to be implemented. As for taking the job seriously, thats what you have to do in order to do it right. I am not in anyway saying that you cannot have fun while doing the job, all I am saying is that you have to look at the serious aspects of the job very seriously, and fit in some jokes and laughter while your doing it. It would be pretty boring if everyone took it extremely serious, and did not kid around a little bit, but not at the expense of safety.

On the SD-20 note, I don't think I have ever used that stuff for what it's supposed to be used for lol.

Well since you guys work in a big atmosphere for the whole summer and working with 4,000 other employees. I think it's a good idea to take some things seriously. Safety and following the rules is something you have to take seriously. And if your a ride operator you should make sure you take that seriously too. Every employee that I see when I visit Cedar Point has an important job and they to me should take it seriously.
