Mean streak is not closing in July

Sandusky' population is about 25,000 people. That's about half of strongsville, which is right around 45,000. I wouldn't exactly call that a "metro area."

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

Sandusky itself only has 25,000 but the statistical metropolitan area is almost 80,000 people. The town isn't that big but it has a ton of people living in nearby neighborhoods/towns/areas that do count towards its metro area population.

The "many of them with jobs" part made me laugh. Sad that that's become a qualifier of "not a ghost town"... Of course here in Rochester, NY we can't make that claim.

ROUNDABOUND.

Sandusky was originally a very important lake port, as well as the transhipping location of coal and iron ore for the Pennsylvania RR, which at one time was the leading employer there. It's importance as a resort area was secondary until after WWII.

I remember hearing somewhere that Sandusky was on it's it way to become a major port city in, but famine kept that from happening. I wonder how Cedar point and the other tourist attractions in the area would have been affected if that didn't happen.

Sandusky proper is a flat out garbage dump of a town that has nothing outside of Cedar Point and Thirsty Pony. Anything worthwhile, even on the 250 corridor is outside of Sandusky proper.

Without the CP revenue the inept Sandusky government would be completely bankrupt. What I think is amusing is the Sandusky fanboys who think it's some great place to visit...

There sure are some interesting articles in the newspapers in Sandusky from time to time about the Sandusky (and surrounding area) governments. Borderline comical actually sometimes, especially the ongoing saga about the improperly installed water pipe line in Erie county.

Of course where I live in Northern IL isn't much better. Here though, the newspapers generally tow the line or else.

It appears Hurler at Kings Dominion is going to get the RMC treatment. First ride in the chain. That makes a Mean Streak conversion for 2017 sound slightly less likely.

Only thing we know is that Hurler is closed this season. Nothing else has been announced. I've seen speculation on GCI redoing the ride but not much about RMC.

It would certainly be interesting if they went with RMC on Hurler, but I think its going to get redone by GCI, just like Carolina's Hurler.

Wait, they're re-doing Carolina's Hurler?

Speaking of dumps. What is that smell that is always lurking around in the vicinity of 250. Especially around the Meijers area. We always smell it when we are up there and have grown to kinda expect its tremendous intoxicating aroma. LOL!

I think the smell originates in the quarry.

Ah, gotcha. Makes sense it kinda smells like sulfur.

Not really a source, but I think he may be referring to this:

It appears as though Cedar Fair has awarded the rights to a project to RMC, since Irvine Ondery Engineering is one of RMC's suppliers. IOE posted a picture as they were celebrating the contract at the "park" but it 100% appears to be Cedar Point and TTD. It could mean that they were at Cedar Fair's headquarters and that it can be any Cedar Fair roller coaster, or it could mean Cedar Point, i.e. Mean Streak. Replying to one of the commenters, the poster said that she cannot say which park it is, but it is NOT Cedar Point, which can mean nothing really since she has to say that.

It does seem like Cedar Fair and RMC are finally working together.

P.S.: Dramamine - it's used to avoid 'hurl...ing'

Interesting times!

Speaking of garbage; insert Hurler clones

Unless I am missing something, IOE works for lots of different companies. This is no indication that any RMC work will be done.

I could be mistaken, but IOE is a controls company. Could just mean any coaster in the chain is getting new controls, braking, etc. Just because they have done controls for RMC is not a 100% guarantee that means a CF park is getting an RMC. I believe they have also done work for GCI in the past.

I think it means, like she said in her Facebook post, that they are celebrating a contract with Cedar Fair.

And isn't there an upcoming project at Kings Island?....

I may have jumped the gun on that one. Someone told me they were working with RMC and I assumed Hurler when the lady said "not Cedar Point" in the comments.

She mentioned a "retrofit" at a CF park this fall. But not CP. This doesn't count RMC Mean Streak out in any way IMO, but it's bigger news for the CF chain as a whole. Obviously, some ride is getting at least a new control system and potentially more. (As for more... RMC Hurler?)
