Wouldn't Tony and Tyler have checked with someone before posting photo's of an active construction area, even if it is only clearing? I am not saying that they went all the way to Kinzel but at least someone higher up in PR then they are. So if they got the OK from them it should have been OK to post, unless someone even higher up saw it and decided that they wanted to keep it under a bit longer.

Of course the most likely situation is just a simple clerical error, or a problem with the server, I know I have mysteriously had posts go missing from my blogs, or another user deleted it by accident.

We don't know, and won't till we hear from Tony and/or Tyler directly

They probably put it up and took it down just to make it seem like theres more to it than there actually is.

Since the capital plan has already been announced and there's no big chunk of change for Cedar Point, the only possibility for 2009 would be an existing ride from another park. IMO it's too late to think they could move & reassemble a coaster (sorry Big Dipper fans,) but a flat or other "compact" ride might be a possibility. Maybe the Pagoda Cam would have shown trailers hauling pieces of the ride down the midway.

I seem to remember spray-painted markings along Frontier Trail last year, with nothing apparently ever coming of those. If the site prep and utility markings are for a 2010 capital project, they're starting very early. I'd expect it to be very big.

Hey, I heard a rumor that Top Thrill Dragster is sinking...

we arent talking 2009 here bud.

That they're starting early doesn't mean it will be "very big" (whatever that means). They can't easily gain access to the island during the season (so long as they keep PWE running), so its logical to do as much site prep in inaccessible areas now, so that when HW starts (and PWE is shut down), they can begin working in the area. Site prep for the other areas (assuming there are other areas) can be done during the season with minimal operation interference.

As for the notion that they're hauling stuff down the midway... why would they haul stuff all the way down the midway, when it'd be easier to haul it down Perimeter Rd and in through the back (like they almost always do)?

I don't think you can judge the size of an attraction on how early they start anymore. With the popularity of Halloweekends growing and the season being longer in general I think the window of opportunity to get a ride built has diminished in the last decade.

Add to that the fact that maintenance demands have grown so their "offseason" is shorter then you get them having to do more in less time.

Finally, there has to be something to be said about the buzz a park creates while building an attraction in front of guests (as opposed to the offseason when few people see it happening, save for internet geeks).

You know what I would like to see at the park? A big haunted house ride. Sorta like a Haunted Mansion at Disney, but A LOT scarier. That would be perfect to put on the island! Maybe CP could even get Rob Zombie to theme it like House of 1000 Corpses. Everybody can dream right?

Tony and Tyler are the top PR guys. The blog represents 'official' park content/information and I don't think they would want someone who wasn't in charge making posts.

This is probably just a change in strategy. Mr. Kinzel has better things to do than police the blog for pictures of dirt being moved. Tony and Tyler probably just decided that it would be better to wait for a more appropriate time to discuss the construction.

...and besides, putting it up and taking it down has enthusiasts in a frenzy which I'm sure they think is hilarious.

Who ever stated that they would bring stuff down the midway was somewhat correct. On the Pagoda cam there was just a line of trucks carrying timber to the front of the park.

They were taking that lumber from the back to the front, not the other way around.

Brandon

Chuck...Kinzel is a micromanager. Keeping an eye on the blog is EXACTLY the kind of thing he would do.

Yeah, maybe if he actually knew how to operate "that internet" thing.

I'm not saying HE is at his desktop monitoring it...but I would bet good money he is getting information about that and many, many other things we all might think would (and should) be trivial to him.

Tony isn't in charge of PR and Tyler doesn't even work in that department. I guess Chuck has never heard of Robin Innes or Bryan Edwards.

Right. Because public relations, marketing, and guest services, and interactive media are all totally different from one another, and they would never be working together. /sarcasm

You're so far away from my point, I think you may be in China.

Chuck said that: "Tony and Tyler are the top PR guys. The blog represents 'official' park content/information and I don't think they would want someone who wasn't in charge making posts."

Outright stating that Tony and Tyler are the head of the PR department at the park and implying that they would have the final say about what the Blog says because they make all PR decisions. They don't. They have bosses. Robin Innes is Director of PR and Bryan Edwards is the PR Manager.

Tony and Tyler are just the public faces.

Sort of like Bush being the public face and Cheney running the show. (Or Obama being the public face and Pelosi running the show.)

I jest. But yes, it is true that there are more senior people in PR. Maybe T&T ran it by the folks they are supposed to...but that doesn't mean that someone even higher didn't intervene.

I'm just guessing. No doubt about it. But I can't think of any other logical explanation as to why it would have been posted and not even stayed up a day while at the same time a new post went up with something completely unrelated to the vacated island space.

When there is smoke (a lack of logical decision) there is usually fire (Kinzel's involvement).

I think you missed his post entirely, actually. He never said they had no one else to report to, therefore, he didn't incite nor did he say specfically they were the PR head. Nice jab about China, haven't heard that one since the Titanic jokes stopped, thanks for the laugh.

I don't think Tony and Tyler have to run every blog post by their upper management, I think in this case they jumped the gun, and thought posting about the cleared area wouldn't reveal anything, considering how easy it is to spot from the air...and the fact that there are pictures all over the internet showing this.

This also leads me to believe its more than a storage shed being built there...
