News: Pieces of Cedar Point's mystery ride revealed

i'm not too much of a coaster guru but now that we have seen the type of track that was revealed it definitely rules out a 4d or ball coaster right?

is there any ball coasters out there?

Yea... they put tarps over the track to keep it from the weather... the same with all thier other rides when they aren't being used after they close for the night ;) *** Edited 5/11/2006 5:57:16 AM UTC by Lakeland05***

The only one that I'm aware of is the tiny test one they had. It was completely made of 4-rail track.

So, by that logic, when I go and look for a brand new car someday, I shouldn't be too upset that it has dirt and scratches and dents on it, and the tires are already worn, and oh well if it has a hint of rust or two right? Because, hey, its going to happen anyways once I start to drive it.

I would think they want to keep the track as new and bright as possible while they wait to install it.

I am sure in some way or form the track is treated to withstand elements of the weather in some shape or form... if they didn't they wouldn't last long would they. I get what your saying about it being new and stuff... but a car can be easily taken care of to prevent rust and other stuff... a coaster on the other hand isn't so easy. So its logic that something might be done to the track to weather proof it... it makes sense. *** Edited 5/11/2006 6:06:02 AM UTC by Lakeland05***

No one said that the WWL station would be used for anything specific. It could be converted into a shop for all we know.

I have to admit I didn't consider the looper idea. Seems like it could fit. Because I did question how "We're going in a whole new direction" and the name Maverick had to do with water. A looper makes more sense. However, I'll let time do it's work.

I ask though, have they recently changed the signs?

And the remark about the track sitting in the sun and getting rained on. Uh... wouldn't it do that even if it was off the ground and installed?

Why does this whole thing remind me of Storm Runner. The sign themes, location, name, and now track color. Hopefully the support colors wont be yellow or teal. My god, not another red and teal.

Iron Dragon's old colors? :)

I did a little Google-ing and found rumors of an Aquatrax coming to Cedar Point that go back all the way to 2004. Now I know that doesn't mean much, but the Skyhawk rumors were right, the maXair rumors were right, the TTD rumors were (mostly) right....

Yes, but I believe the largest rumor was a B&M Flying Coaster, which doesn't look like it is going to be happening. Well not anytime soon anyways.

I don't recall Iron Dragon having teal supports...

I was thinking the same thing.

Actually, it's going to be an 85ft launched coaster, similar to Rita. But they're going to build it this year so that they that they have 18 months to debug it before it opens in 2008 :)

Anyone else dismayed to see Intamin track?

Steve

Nope, just the opposite, I am thrilled to see Intamin track. Isn't MF one of the best coasters on the planet? Doesn't Intamin dominate the top 10 steel coasters in the world? Whenever any company in any industry pushes the envelop, there are unforeseen issues. Clearly Intamin has had issues with new ride technology, and to see the 4th Intamin in a row at Cedar Point speaks volumes (imo) about their integrity as a manufacturer.

I also agree Jeff and Walt may be leading us away from correct guesses. I would have banked dollars to donuts that Jeff said enthusiasts would be pleased, now we'll be disapointed (arg).

oh yeah, that staging area is REALLY far away from the park. they're gonna have to truck or crane it all into the park now too. that's gonna be difficult to do with guests trafficing the causeway. (unless they do it at night or during the off-season)

and where are the supports??? you need supports before track. *** Edited 5/11/2006 3:22:37 AM UTC by halltd***

These pieces are likely going to be installed toward the end of the assembly process, whereas the track segments that will be installed first will probably be delivered to a closer location. Of course, this is only a "what I would do" comment, and may have no basis in reality whatosever.

As for the supports not having been delivered, I would think that storing supports on-site would take less room for the fab shop, because they can probably be stacked and thus take up less room. A fab shop can only create and store so much track, however, before they need to make room for more. So, they send the track on to CP, which makes more room in the fab shop's yard.

I do find it strange that CP seems intent on keeping this thing under wraps even though there are numerous pictures of it, leaving no questions as to the designer. They're wasting all this money on blue tarps, when they could be spending that on important things, like paying the Lemon Chill guy to keep quiet. ;)

someone needs to take a nice webcam over to the quality inn and help them set it up. :) if we had a funcoast-type webcam on that lot, it would be so much fun!! *** Edited 5/11/2006 11:54:54 AM UTC by halltd***

Oh I can see it now:
-------------------------------------------
"OMG THE CAM IS DOWN!!!!11!"

"It's been 2 hours, why is the cam down?"

"Maybe they're moving it to another secret location"

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, it's probably not a good idea to put a Cam near the storage area.

A few people have said they don't understand why all this track would be delivered before the suports.

If these are pieces that would perhaps be doing a very close pass above water, i.e. the Swan Boat Pond or another area with water yet to be created, then the supports might not be very big and could be stored somewhere else.

This is purley speculation though.

I can't belive how many replies to this post there have been in less than 12 hours.

I would think just from a marketing/hype perspective, that the swan boat pond could be one of the first areas completed or nearly completed with track before the season was over and before an announcement has been made. Just a thought though.

Yay red intamin track.
