Paying guests 2008

Once again I will be spending a grand on the family to enjoy Cedar Point for the summer. I always look forward to seeing familier faces of the employees as they will ask me to go to a designated smoking area :P

How about...I don't know, following the rules and maybe we won't have to ask you to go to a designated area. I just looked at one of your older posts regarding the smoking policy and noticed you like to simply walk around the midways holding your cigarettes, and telling people that if they don't like the smoke that they can 'walk around'.
Get over yourself. You aren't special. Follow the rules, that you are clearly aware of, or don't come to the park.

I hereby declare this the "Dumb Guests 2007" thread.

So there I was standing at Unload 1 (where else?) when I see this group of teens jumping under the queues. We had about a half hour wait at this point and they were jumping from the vending machines under all those chains there.

I kept my eye on them and when they got up to the station and tried to get on the ride I walked up to them.

"Excuse me guys, Cedar Point does not allow line jumping. If you want to ride you have to go to the end of the line."

"We didn't jump the line!"

"Yes you did. I saw you."

"How could you see? You didn't see anthing!"

"... can I show you something? You see all those people standing down there?" I point to the queue. "That's where you were. And this is us, watching the spot where you jumped the line."

"Oh." She said and then gave me this big grin and walked off with the rest of her group.

I've got one!

I was waiting to get on the Witches Wheel and these two boys (middle school aged?) in line behind me were doing que rail acrobatics. They were doing flips over the rails, standing on and balancing on the top rail, stepping from rail to rail and all that sort of stupid stuff.

When it came time to load the ride op told the two boys that they didn't get to ride because they were not following the safety rules. The boys were speechless at that and just kinda walked away thru the exit gate looking back a few times with dumbfounded looks on their faces. It was great.

You guys in rides have a difficult job when it comes to line jumping. I congratulate all of you who enforce the rules. Since I'm in merchandise, I don't really deal with really rude guests. Untill the guest wants a refund, which we usually do not do. It is clearly signed at every register, that ALL sales are final. Now if someone get's the wrong size, or something is deffective, we'll do an exchange, but there's always someone who says, I never saw that sign, that says ALL SALES ARE FINAL, so you can guess what happens next. Have a great 2008, and hope to see some familar faces in merchandise. GW

Good for you people that actually ENFORCE the rules! I bet those people that were told they couldn't ride didn't do whatever got them in trouble (line jumping, queue rail aerobics).

I also think it's great that they went through the entire line then were told they couldn't ride instead of being told at the time the violation was noticed.

Keep up the good work! Need more people like y'all!

being an employee and a smoker, i find it even harder to not enforce the designated smoking area rule. i mean, there is nothing i like more than lighting up right after getting off magnum, dragster, mantis, millennium, etc. but, now that i can't do it, i don't want anyone else too, either. there were times when i found myself going 50+ feet out of my way to ask people to put out their cigarettes. my favorite is when the guest is within sight of a smoking area, like the ones who smoke right outside of the red garter doors.

as for people who smoke in line, there have been times when i've called security. but that's only happened when we couldn't send someone to talk to them, or the guest was beligerent with a ride host. that happens, too. and i know some employees get discouraged when they ask a guest to put out their cigarette, and the guest just continues walking. but, i have NO problem following them and asking again. politefully of course.

I love it when they're standing right next to a no smoking sign in the line when they light up, and then when you go into the line to ask them to leave the line and extinguish the cigarettes they insist there's no signs, along with a few physical threats. When I was in, I was usually the one to deal with a beligerent guest in line. Then there was the big situation that occurred on the platform...I'll never forget that one. Thought I was actually gonna get decked in the face that time, but it wasn't over smoking.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

i got one for you guys,

last summer i was working at Midway Market (thank god im at fridays now), anywho on the halloweekends on a friday night midway has a pizza buffett, and i had some guy come in and ask me what do you mean by a pizza buffett im like um pizza sir, and he was like only pizza i said yup

How is that dumb? That's a pretty valid question, really, especially to a guest who might go once a year and maybe ate there last year on a non-halloweekends day and remembers other food there. Maybe he thought that maybe there was a lot of pizza in addition to other food?

yeah, that's a pretty mild "dumb" question. especially since pizza buffet places like CiCi's are so popular now and they include pasta and salad.
