Pest Problem

I've just read something about housing having mice, roaches, & bed bugs!
Is this true? Please tell me its not! Or just in certain housing areas (which ones if so)? I have a big problem with that!

Me and my roommates were clean and not slobs. Therefore, we never had problems like this. If you and your roommates aren't slobs, don't worry about it. To avoid bed bugs, just make sure you disinfect the mattress when you get there, and frequently, with lysol. Also, make sure you wash your sheets frequently and clean up after yourselves. You can live in a mansion and still have a mice problem, it just depends on how careless you are. As for roaches, I've never seen any.

Lysol isn't going to stop or prevent a bed bug problem.

I would just add that the housing management folks seem to take pest control very seriously. When proof of bedbug infestation is found, they seal off the room and run this big machine that gets rid of the problem. Because nobody makes sure that people are not living like pigs, you need to take care of your stuff regularly and you won't have a problem. Don't empty your trash or clean your room, and you will definitely get a lot more roommates - mainly ants and spiders.

Lysol is a disinfectant that will kill bed bugs on contact until dried, which will prevent them from becoming further embedded into your mattress. So like I said, frequently spray with Lysol and wash sheets to avoid them. Also, shower daily and wash your clothes. Tiny bugs from working outside all day can possibly become transferred from your clothes to your bed if you come home from work and just lay down in your bed without changing or showering. Trust me, my father works for zoning and simple things like this he sees a lot. It can be preventable. Thank you though.

You let me know how well that lysol will work to rid an infestation of bed bugs.

If you notice even one bed bug, report and provide the sample to the housing office. They will relay the message to appropriate individuals, who will use a mass heat-treatment to rectify the situation.

Fact of the matter is: Aint nobody got time for that.

It seems the bed bug problem is inevitable. It happens every season, and yes you can try to do your part to prevent it, IF you have the time. And let's hope your room mates do it too.

Taking Lysol to every possible surface of your room is a good idea, regardless of whether it kills bed bugs or not. As others have said, keep clean, shower, do you your laundry, and you will most likely be fine.

If you don't have time to disinfect your bed when you process in and frequently clean/disinfect on split shifts, then maybe one should find time because it isn't inevitable at all. You're already off to a bad start if you can't find time to prevent bed bugs. Like I said, I never had a problem.

Well I am speaking personally. Not everyone works Millennium Force hours, but I worked a consistent 70-80 hours a week nearly the entire season. I use my free time to sleep, do my laundry and get my grocery shopping done. Not religiously clean. If you've never had a problem you are very lucky! Point is it happens. My solution was not living in housing.

I never had a problem but I lived in 1400's which I hardly heard of anyone that had it. One room I saw was getting cleaned out. But that does not mean its just as possible for any building. In reality you can get bed bugs pretty much everywhere you go. As long as you keep your room clean and your sheets and bed clean you should be good as long as your roommates do the same. In reality its all up to us to keep everything clean.

i agree with everyone else - keep your stuff and yourself clean. during two different seasons i've never had a problem with any bugs. i know people who have had them..its honestly inevitable when living with people from so many different places...someone is bound to get it - but the more you're clean the less problems you would have. ive never seen any mice or roaches though..

My apartment had a bit of an ant problem my first summer. Yeah, idk but they would always find my donuts and that made me upset lol. I legit just sprayed them till they all died. I was clearly too lazy to go buy ant traps haha.

I love donuts. Especially when people lovingly bring them into work for their crews...

The only pests I know of are the two-legged, human kind. And they are hard to get rid of.

I've found that holding very still and staring at them usually gets them to go away. The less times you can blink, the better. XD
