Question on rides

I got a few questions about operations.

What do they do if your ride is down for the day?

If some one pukes do you shut down the whole ride to clean it?

What do you do if someone start fliping out on you or someone else?

It all depends on how long the ride is down for, if they need ride operators for other rides you will be moved around to other rides, or if like Park Services needs you....you can get moved there as well. If it for a few hours you usually stay at your ride and clean.

If we have a guest illness the ride is shut down until it can be cleaned up and is cycled empty for a few cycles to dry it off. Don't worry the area that had the guest illness, it is very clean before anyone is allowed to ride it.

Your third question depends on the situation that happens.

Last year I got threatened while at entrance when I asked a man's wife to try the test seat at Wicked Twister. This guy was complete white trash (and I had every right to ask the woman to try the test seat... she was a whale) and actually threatened to break my height stick over my head. It was only my third or fourth day of work and I was completely taken back by what he was saying, and I didn't really know how to handle it so I got one of my supervisors over to deal with them. What I should have done was immediately call security. If you ever get physically threatened, you should do the same.

Working at CP in rides you WILL have people in your face yelling at you. There's really no way around it. You just need to keep your cool and talk to them calmly. They will most likely be upset about you enforcing a rule that inconveniences them, so you just need to stand your ground and NOT give in to them. For example, a parent is upset that their child is just barely under the height requirement. Their strategy might be just to yell and scream at you until you give in, but DON'T. It's part of the job and it does get easier the more it happens.

I was wondering because I have to put up with that on a daily basis at Conneaut Lake Park and I was curious on how they take care of it.

Yeah you probably crossed a line with the A-hole part lol. I'm pretty sure that cursing at a guest is actually cause for termination at CP lol.

Yeah...cursing at guests is a big no-no, lol. It's best to just stay silent while they vent their frustration and then respond with an explanation. Repeat this process a couple (maybe quite a few) times and the guest will probably be fine with the ruling.

Yeah I know I should not have said that. I am nice to everybody who visits. It is better working at a small park where I can Chat with geusts. Normally we talk about hisory of the park, What it is like working at a park, Sports, other parks, and how to run the rides.

I don't work there, but I want to compliment those of you who do have to deal with those people..

Some people are crazy, just seeing what some of you have to put up with just boggles the mind...

It seems like some people just get a kick out of seeing how irritating then can be, just for fun.

I'll be standing in line, when someone does something obviously wrong and bothers the "good" guest in line as much as possible, especially when they are asked to enter the line from the beginning because line jumping isn't allowed, blah blah.

I try to be as polite to all you workers as possible, without you there, no rides would be running, and everytime the ride stops for "clean-up", I'm glad I'm not the one having to clean it. Thank You Workers.

Ditto - You guys rock.

So what would you do? Stand there and get the s*** kicked out of you until someone comes and breaks it up?

Ya, I'm sure that if someone physically abuses you, you're permitted to defend yourself.

Yeah, some of the guests are crazy, I remember this guy came up to the Mantis, and wanted to see if he could test the seat, and we had no choice but to let him try the seat. Or when a guest get angry, because you are following the safety rules and not letting their child onto the ride. People will get heated, that's why they should go to park ops and get a wristband.

Welcome to Mantis the only stand-up roller coaster in the state of Ohioer, this is not a sit-down roller coaster, if you want to sit down then their is the I-ron Dragon over to the left and across the midway is Milliunem Force.

There is a difference between "retailiate" and "defend yourself".

What's so crazy about that? It states that several times in the riders safety brochure and on the guide maps. If no test seat is available, you are welcome to go up the entrance and test the seat there.

yes I do understand the difference between retailiate and defend. I mean Im a pretty cool tempered guy, If somone pushed me I would do nothing. But if a man took a swing at me, I would defend myself. The only problem with that is when does defending turn into an offencive move.

Kinda off topic but could someone explain the duties and responcibilities of a security guard. Id like to hear a walk through of a normal day for them.

CP has their own Police Department. I think I remember security there also but I can't be certain.

I'd be fairly sure if there was security that it's contracted out from an outside source and not seasonal employees.

Yes, they have both bonded officers, and unbonded, security-type officers.
