Screamscape rumor of coaster removal

Right now I’ve got no way to confirm this rumor at all, so I’m just passing it on as a possible warning, but Screamscape has heard that Cedar Point may be considering the removal of “an older steel coaster” before the 2010 season. I’m guessing 2010 could very likely be the next year we’ll see a new coaster added to the park, so it may be time for an older ride to make way for a newer ride. With the arms race against Magic Mountain to see who has the most coasters over, the time may be right. I don’t have a name at this point, but my short list of possibilities would include: Wildcat, Disaster Transport, Iron Dragon, Corkscrew and the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. Despite the numerous rumors of Disaster Transport being removed over the years, we’ve heard that the park may be leaning towards removing a ride move towards of the back of the park, which would likely narrow it down to my final three possibilities if true.

I hope it's not the corkscrew if this happens, that just looks too cool over the midway

Well let me narrow that list.

Corkscrew no way they could fit a new ride (coaster) in that space.

Same for Iron Dragon, and Disaster Transport and Wildcat.

So that leaves CCMR, a classic but its time for something new there.

I'm not going to speculate on this, but I am going to point out, that they may not be be placing a new attraction exactly where another is taken out. There's always the possibility that a ride will be removed, and other attractions in the park located relocated there to accommodate a new attraction elsewhere. Case and point with Schwabinchen.

Yeah, good point. But again if you look at the rides again

DT- (if there putting a coaster in) would have to relocate WT which is most likely not going to happen.

WC- very unlikely due to just wheres its fitted in. Unless it's a smaller type of coaster like WC.

Iron Dragon-maybe you could weave something in.

Cedar Creek Mine Ride to me still seems like the most logical one.

Still this is just an rumor, who cares right now. Just go to the park and ride that coaster a lot. Thats what I did with Geauga Lake, the rumor turned out to be true... But at least Cedar Point will give you a month in advance to tell you it will be removed...

CCMR isnt going anywhere, it is way too popular and easy to maintain, ditto for Iron Dragon (well not as easy to maintain) and to a lesser extent, Wildcat.

DT: The ride we all love to hate, I could see this one coming down

However, I would like to bring up another canidate, that some of you have missed:

Jr. Gemini: You see there is this sweet gently used kiddy coaster that needs a new home now that its park has closed, and this ride has had its share of accidents.

As ridiculous as this thread will probably get, I'm not going to comment on much here. However, don't under estimate the area occupied by DT.

What about Demon Drop? it was for sale already.

^The rumor said steel coaster.

^^I agree with you.

^^^Not with you though, CCMR has a lot of space, and nice space for a coaster.

DT and Space Spiral and that whole midway would have to me removed with some of the parking lot for a coaster to fit in that spot, unless again it is really small.

^So does Mean Streak but thats not going either. Think about this one Planet Snoopy Phase 2:

-Aquatic Stadium demolished
-GL's kiddie coaster goes in its place, expanding the kiddie are all the way back to the Beach Entrance
-Jr. Gemini quietly removed due to it being old and somewhat unsafe (and redundant with Woodstalk nearby)

The aquatic Stadium did not open this year if DT goes they can tear down the stadium and loop the coaster around Twister via the beach the only people that use that part of the beach is north coast parasail. Whic would create more than enough room for a standerd coaster ie a wooden coaster.

they must be taking out top thrill dragster haha

I doubt CF would remove CCMR. While I like big and new coasters, I think parks need to retain a certain amount of "classic" and after CP took out WWL, I hope they wouldn't remove CCMR. Plus, as someone said above, it is still very popular and doesn't seem like it is high maintenance.

I also hope they don't tear up Frontier Town for a few more years. It would be nice for it to be given a few years to grow some new vegetation, etc. And I think the place would really lose its charm if it got so congested with new rides you couldn't walk around.

Corkscrew won't go anywhere. No way anything else could fit in that spot and Corkscrew is so iconic sprawling all over the midway.

Iron Dragon? Doubt it. Still hugely popular (great family ride), and plus I don't know what they could put in there without totally ripping up that area.

Not sure about Disaster Transport. If the "perfect project" came along I could see them removing it, but the ride still draws quite a nice crowd, and they obviously have a lot invested in it. Plus, it is a nice housing for the Halloween maze. It does occupy a nice chuck of land though.

I'd really say that Wildcat is the most likely to get the axe. Its ridership is substantially lower than the others, hit 450,000 in 2006. It also occupies a prime spot. Maybe not necessarily for another coaster, but with the screen and such so close I could see CP getting creative with the area.

Frankly, I think we will see future CP expansion come from removal of on site parking, administrative buildings, employee housing, etc, as opposed to major coasters.

Thrills Around the Corner!

I always find it amusing when people say if they remove [insert any coaster here], they'd not be able to fit anything in its place. Seems to me there's a coaster there now. So, why couldn't they put another in its place? Besides, a "replacement" coaster doesn't have to always occupy the exact same footprint.

Thankfully Cedar Fair isn't known for putting in "off-the-shelf" coasters, so they can make them fit wherever they want. Yes, I know they've put in some stock coasters before, but it's not their mantra (like some parks we know).

Is that sarcasm or a very skewed way of looking at that ride?

Screamscape needs to shut up about our roller coasters removal at Cedar point is not going happend. demon drop is not a roller coaster its freefall ride. i am thicking wildcat needs to go because i haven't been on it 3 years now. Cedar Creek Mine Ride is safe from tear down. corkscrew is not going nowhere. Disaster Transport is cool roller coaster is not takeing out.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

My head hurts.

If I was going to build one of the hybrid water coasters (a ride, no doubt, that would be marketable to the "family" audience CP has suddenly remembered) then a likely location would be where CCMR stands. From a logical point of view it makes sense to have all of the "water" attractions in the same general area of the park.

Frankly, even though Corkscrew is old I think it is a signature ride at Cedar Point with the over-the-midway elements and I would bemoan its loss over CCMR or Disaster.

All that said, I trust Sceamscape for news about as much as I trust CNN and FOX these days...and that ain't saying much.

What about Mantis? I know it wont be taken out because its not that old but its a pain in the butt. They could fit a nice coaster in there and over the little swamp it would be cool.

Let's Get Weird.

Anyone think about Gemini? There's a lot of space in that area.
