Screamscape rumor of coaster removal

DT may not be a thrill for you but I still enjoy the ride once in a while and it makes for a great "family" coaster that the kids can ride without being scared to death. CCMR and Iron Dragon, in my opinion, also qualify as more family friendly coasters lost in a sea of giants.

The reason I don't like DT has nothing to do with the ride experience. I don't like its location blocking one of the most beautiful views on all of Lake Erie. That has always been my issue with it. Could it be more thrilling? Yes, it could. The Opryland bobsled coaster was MUCH better.

But, tear down the stadium and Disaster and you open up what should be a major asset to Cedar Point instead of the relative "sore thumb" that area is right now.

Correct, Jason. The percentage is of the total of just those rides I have listed - not of every ride in the park.

Can I have the 15 seconds it took me to read MATTHEWGELMAS's post back?

Was there any real reason to bold Cedar Creek Mine Ride?

What does "wildcat sucks I am not going on it again i hate wildcat is are family coaster i am too old to ride wildcat." mean?

Talk about a run-on sentence.... That thing didn't run on, it ran off the charts.

Sorry to play grammar cop, but some of this is getting out of hand.

Besides...it doesn't sound like he's to old to ride it.

That makes sense and I apologize.

If you really want to "read the tea leaves", watch carefully how the rides are treated. It became obvious, for instance, that White Water Landing was not long for this world a few years ago--

o When the mountain collapsed, it was removed
o When the boats collided once, the 2-chute operation was ceased
and the most obvious...
o When the State of Ohio required that all rides have their fences updated to the current ASTM standard, instead of installing new fencing as they did on every other ride in the park, on White Water Landing they basically nailed chicken wire to the existing split-rail fence.

With that in mind, take a look around the park.

o Magnum XL-200 was just painted.
That was the kiss of death at Kings Island, but at Cedar Point it suggests the ride will be around a while.

o Gemini has been undergoing a 3-year program to replace all of the structural lumber.
This suggests that perhaps they are planning to get another 20 years out of the ride.

o Mine Ride has completed a 2-year program to replace all of the structural lumber.
This suggests that perhaps they are planning to get another 30 years out of the ride.

o Wildcat has recently been equipped with an entirely new control system.

What kinds of capital have been dumped into other rides in the park? Note also that sometimes things that are done to rides are also indicators of changes. Chaos, for instance, has lost its electric gate-bar release in favor of a handle on the back of each tub. That ride has recently been spotted in a ride broker's advertising flyer.

My personal guesses about rides that may not be long for this world? Disaster Transport, Corkscrew, and Jr. Gemini. Believe it or not, I can also see Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister on the chopping block, but unless they are *really* bad I don't see either of those going away until they are 17 years old and fully depreciated.

Logic is a great thing, RideMan knows that. :)

True that.....though there's always some level of doubt (hint hint). ;)

Of course, removing Jr. Gemini would barely open enough room to spit downwind.

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

They could put a S&S skyswatter where wildcat is.

^ Those actually take up a LOT of horizontal space. Plus, they haven't been very successful in the US. But, to me they look really fun. I'd like to see one if they could get it to run.

How is the capacity on those? They seem like they'd be a nightmare to load/unload and get going, maXair and Skyhawk are already pushing the limits to mega flats rides able to run at CP's capacity needs.

I did not realize this, and I also apologize for my comments. I suppose its a good reminder that before you poke fun at someones writing or grammar, you should know the whole story first.

MATTHEWGELMAS... I'm sorry.

I also apologize if I offended anyone else. It was not my intention.

I know I've made that mistake before.

Hopefully Matthew will read this: Join the conversation. Every post you have, you just say some stuff, and then disappear. Respond to us and think it out a bit. It would be nice to hear your take, but the only posts I ever see are "CP WILL NOT.....".

Also, edit your signature (you can get to it through the "My Account" link by your name in the top right) and mention that you use ASL. That will assuage many of these other comments before they happen. You'll still have some people who don't read entire posts (eh LL) but their ignorance is their loss.

Rideman's logic makes the most sense in terms or deciphering which ride will be gone, IMO.

So, applying that logic, I would guess that it would be disaster transport.

And here's why:

1. The ride has been left to slowly decay its theming; no visible improvements have been made to this ride whatsoever.

2. The pending sale of Demon Drop; it's in the area

3. The apparent demolition of the aquatic stadium; it's in the area

4. SkyHawk and Maverick; both located in the back of the park, which IMO would rule out that area getting the next dose of "big attention", which leaves the front as a possiblity.

There may be some signs I have missed and/or overlooked, but it seems to me that all signs point to at the very least a facelift for that area of the park. DT is certainly an "older steel coaster" (well, I guess it's steel).

But then we have the biggest obstacle: ridership.

Kinzel has already been stated as saying that he regrets DT; he admits it was a flop, and I simply cannot believe that even the blind cannot see that monstrosity as being the ugliest attraction in any park on this planet.

Seriously, if there were a "power rankings" for ugliest attraction, Disaster Transport of the runaway winner.

But back to ridership; what they need to find is an equally popular ride to put in its place. Perhaps they are just waiting for the perfect option.

That said, if this is a reality, and not just my guess, it has already been decided, and we just dont know about it yet.
