Shoot the Rapids is being removed!

I hope the ride's prime land is put to better use than the relocation of Ripcord. Given the commitment to and success of Timber Mountain at Knott's, I'm inclined to think another water/log ride could be in CP's future, but who other than Intamin builds those these days?

Mack still makes traditional log flumes as well as very popular water coasters.

I don't think there is any possible way it could've gotten on the track out of position. The lift hill had a guide bar up the center of the track next to the chain. I think it was just an anti-rollback failure.

Yes, that is how it works but it couldn't just be an anti-rollback failure, it would have to be a chain dog AND anti-rollback failure since the chain didn't break as far as we know. My theory is that the guides on the boat that are supposed to go under the guide bar somehow went on top of the guide bar, and the chain dog was just long enough to still precariously engage until that engagement failed.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I think a complete refurbishment and redesign of Shoot the Rapids is certainly possible and it would make sense as some of the investment would be preserved

I would be so happy If that happens. The layout of the ride in my opinion can be saved. Just get rid of the Intamin mechanisms and lifts and start fresh.

This ride was ok (when running) but glad to see it go. Definitely need to replace it with a traditional type flume.

Not sure if someone has mentioned it yet as I skipped some pages, but how about a ride similar to Splash Mountain at WDW? Have about half of the ride as a dark ride.

That's what I was thinking.

Surprised I don't hear talk of a simulation type ride yet. Something exciting enough that it belongs at a thrill park, but gives more of the illusion rather than the true risk.

In lieu of that, I'm all for bringing back dark rides or a full flume.

I would have no problem with a dark water ride. But please, let it go faster than 1ft/second during the course of the ride. That was one of the worst things about the ride, I was bored between the two hills.

And put the big hill at the end!

How about that Peanut's themed log ride now? :-)

They have one at Kings Island.

If one was going to convert STR into a dark ride of some sort, the fact that it moves so painfully slow would not be such a bad thing, and could be turned into a positive. Toss in a couple tiny drop a la "Pirates of the Carribean" and suddenly you have the foundation for a real-boat dark ride. The slowness would give riders time to experience any scenes/elements.

Now that I would like to see.

Agreed. They should make a Rapids River.

That's the right idea! Cheers!

Well it's official from winter chill out today. Shoot the rapids is leaving. Oh well, at least I have Rougarou! Also they can take away shoot the rapids, but they can't take away my blueberries.

I just got back from a week-long trip to Disney World, so I haven't heard the news until now. It really surprised me considering Shoot the Rapids has only been around for six seasons. But I believe it's for the best, especially since I'm sure Cedar Point has plans for something better up its sleeve.

Also, props to Shawn for taking this so well. :)

I, too, hope they use this space for a traditional flume and don't waste it on ripcord.
While I like the idea of a dark ride at the point, I think this would be much better somewhere near the parking lot, where there isn't much of a view. To enclose the STR area would be a huge waste of potentially beautiful scenery for an outdoor attraction.

And, maybe now they can bring the Paddlewheel boats back?!

They said they are getting rid of ripcord and that it won't come back

They said they were getting rid of Skycoaster and the Go Karts. Nothing was said about Ripcord.

^ Skyscraper. Ripcord is a Skycoaster.

They said they are getting rid of Skyscraper, not Skycoaster (Ripcord). Ripcord will remain where it is now.

Hmmm, I wonder what will go where Shoot the Rapids is? A roller coaster wouldn't fit, so maybe a flat ride of some sort?
