Shoot the Rapids is being removed!

A smaller family coaster would fit in the STR location. Look for a "master blaster" to be erected in soackcity as a replacement.

What if Cedar Point put in a launching family coaster like FireChaser Express at Dollywood where STR is now? Obviously CP would never do any serious theming but this kind of a ride would be a fun addition for families.

Hmmm, I wonder what will go where Shoot the Rapids is? A roller coaster wouldn't fit, so maybe a flat ride of some sort?

Umm, there's more than enough space for a roller coaster on the island. Doesn't just have to be on STR's footprint. Just look at some of our drawings on the Draw CP's next coaster thread to get an idea of what can go there

^^^^ (Theme PP), I can see the future dark ride going in the current spot of STR. It would be a good spot for it (wouldn't block any views) and there would be enough room for a structure and queue lines. It would also be a draw to the Frontier Trail. Yes, the skeleton or wild west theme would fit the area nicely also.

Sorry, I should have said that a BIG roller coaster wouldn't fit. A small family coaster would, but not much else. And yes, bring on the dark ride!

Again, there's more than enough room for a BIG roller coaster. Millennium island is about the size of Mean Streak's land area, plus more, and Millennium Force hardly takes up any of that space. I'm sure a large coaster can fit and interact with MF's turns, and probably more.

Keep in mind that Dinosaurs Alive is taking up most of the area under Millennium Force. Looking at Cedar Point's park map, that area certainly doesn't look big enough for Mean Streak. Is it that off perspective?

And you don't think Cedar Point would remove Dinosaurs Alive to put in a coaster? That should be Cedar Point's motto: "Remove two rides, replace with one coaster". Seriously though, I don't for one second think Dinosaurs Alive is irreplaceable, and Cedar Point won't hesitate to remove it for another attraction, coaster or not. And no, the park map is not to scale. Take a look at google maps. The Island is huge.

No kidding. They could totally build something big in there. I would feel bad for Dinosaurs Alive having to move out so soon, but if they can do it to STR, they can do it to DA.

Because Cedar Point park maps are always to scale.

They said they were getting rid of Skycoaster and the Go Karts. Nothing was said about Ripcord.

Ah, one small typo can do so much! I totally meant Schyscraper. I know that Ripcord is a Skycoaster. My bad! Didn't mean to confuse everyone!

Though it's hard to tell because of the quality and distance, but on Camera 3 it looks like all the land has been cleared and flattened out on the part of the ride that's on Millennium Island.

Edit* After a closer look, to me it looks like the entire ride has been cleared out.

Are you sure? I think I can see at least part of the 1st hill.. certainly part of what appears to be the drop.

djDaemon's avatar

Yeah, at the very least the beginning of the lift and the pull-out of the first drop are both there.

After looking extremely hard (terrible quality) it does look like there is some of the lift hill left. But I definitely see a whole lot of cleared land though.

Looking a Google maps shows a pretty big size area there, I wonder how much of the river/lagoon can be filled in and used without getting some kind of wetlands reclamation infraction requiring the federal government to get involved?

CoasterGuy15's avatar

I doubt they will fill in the river around MF island. That would make people even more mad than getting rid of trees

Maybe, maybe not. The lagoons have been altered repeatedly over the decades. They used to connected to the bay; boats would carry coal to the park's power plant via the lagoons.

The lagoons are a charming part of CP, even more so than the trees. They hopefully would never be filled in.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

^^ Absolutely right, noggin. Especially if a new coaster being built is involved. Some of us are so old on here we remember there being two islands in the middle of the lagoons. The first one was altered the first time (and Jungle Larry's Safari taken out and moved to the new midway) for the Corkscrew being built in 1976, and that same plot of land was partly filled in once yet again for TTD when it was being built for the 2003 season. So yeah, I think people would get past it. Pete, agree that I wouldn't want them totally filled in, they look good as they are now.
