Summer Job

Working at cp is not bad and the dorm life is not bad either.. I mean some of the girls are so disgusting espcially when they are on there period and put there "napkins" all over the floor or the showers ewww ppl grow up... The drawback like alot of ya said is when ur getting ready for work and they are cleaning the bathrooom. I mean come on we gotta get a shower for work... But working at cp and workin in the same place for 6 months or at the same ride becomes a lil redundant but your crew is what makes you... If you dont get along wit them then your gonna have the worst season ever cuz they become your family and you see them but all of 5 hours and thats when your sleeping. You hardly ever get sleep but when ya do its a miracle and thats on your days off but even then you dont want to sleep you wanna play in the park or chill out with your freinds... Its an awesome play for kids who are either spoiled and have everything or dont wanna work cuz cp will show them what work is. Its also a great experience overall ! You make alot of freinds that you become close with and when ya leave it sucks ... Thats the one thing I hated last season was leaving and seeing ppl leave b4 you it was very sad.... But you have fun w/ ur crew you either go out to eat, have fun at the bar, or just chill.... CP has there own bar for employees but its also for locals to but most of cp employees go there... You get alot of bonuses for working there... Like free admission, 4 free tickets, housing is only 16-60 bux, free parking, i think thats it but take it as you want! good luck in applying ! you wont regret it im sure!

Thanks again to everyone for the info. I cant wait to apply next month.

I'm gonna be available for about three months is that enough to become a ride host?

Ralph Wiggum's avatar

It ultimately depends on their needs and when you're available, but I'd imagine 3 months is enough to land a spot in rides.

yeah there were definitely some people on my crew who were only there a few months. It should be fine. They generally take what they can get.

How does the process of getting a roommate go?

If you don't have anyone arranged ahead of time, you just go to the dorm you've decided to live in (dorm, on-point dorm or apartment) and they'll assign you to a room. Sometimes they'll let you check out the rooms first to see if they're trashed/meet the roommates, but usually they'll just send you to an open spot. If you do have someone decided ahead of time, it ultimately depends on open space. If space is open, you can move into a room. If one roommate gets there before the other, they'll usually hold a bed for a week or two, but again that depends on how badly they need the open bed.

Okay sounds good. What housing complex would you recommend trying to get?

Personally I prefer the Commons Dorms, mostly just for the air conditioning. They have lockers you can secure your stuff in, and you'll only have 2-3 roommates max. Some people prefer the on-point dorms because it's easier to get to and from work, especially if they don't have a car. The on-point dorms are quite old and don't have AC, although you can have a window unit installed if you provide it and pay a little extra per week for it.

As for apartments, I've never been in the Bayside apartments, but my understanding is there's little chance of getting a spot there anyway. The Commons apartments are hell on earth in my opinion. Nothing like sharing an apartment (and bathroom) with 15 people you most likely don't know. Plus only the living room/kitchen area has AC, the bedrooms are not cooled.

Commons Dorms are definitely the way to go. I loved it. It's where everyone is at. We have a good time at commons. Like right now I'm living in Bayside because I stayed to work at Castaway Bay and yeah It's nice to have your own bathroom but I live with only two other people so It's not bad but this room is made for six. I'll definitely be moving back to Commons for the season because I would hate this with five other people.

hey i am applying for summer 2010... are there any other jobs that are good other than rides? Like the sweeping job or whatever.

and if i do get a ride job is it hard to learn?

99er's avatar

Yes and no they are not hard to learn. Just check out the Cedar Point website for job descriptions. Find the one that is best for you.

Rides is not very hard (if we're talking intelligence level here). It is hard in the aspect that you are the frontline of guest service, and it's your job to keep people safe and happy (and these aren't always the same thing). There is nothing harder than telling a kid that they are too short to ride and that they need to go back down the entrance or to see a larger guest and tell them that they won't fit. I don't really know about any other positions but there ya go, a 411 on rides. As for dorms, do Commons for sure (preferrably 1500's). A/C, and there is always someone to hang out with there. Maybe make a friend to stay with in Cedars or Golds for like 4th of July though so you don't have to take blue thunder.

thx for the replies guys and what's blue thunder?

99er's avatar

It is what they call the employee bus. Although non of them are blue anymore so that name is pretty much void.

ah i see...

As far as the onpoint dorms go,I've never been inside Cedars, but Golds isn't too shabby. Me and 2 of my friends got the only three person dorm in Golds, and with an air conditioner the rooms really aren't so bad. You're working so much that by the time you get back to the room all you wanna do is sleep anyway...and when you're that tired what the walls and floor looks like won't really matter.

Golds are really convinient too,for the reason that you don't have to get up an extra 10-20 minutes so you can drive to work and find a close parking spot. They're also the most inexpensive dorms to stay at,cause they're one of the most dated. You get to experience litereally living in the park, which is totally cool. Some people say the noise is overwhelming, but you get used to it,and its not nearly as loud as all the people outside at commons.

I'd definatly avoid the Commons apartments, unless you have like 15 other friends who wanna room together.I stayed in those for the first month I was at CP last season before Golds opened up,and it was awful.

This is really starting to scare me! Everyone is getting it but me! I'm not 18 yet but I will be, I can work from the end of May to the end of August. I filled out my app the first night it came out, why havent I gotten anything yet. Jeeze, the only thing I can think is the whole part time full time thing, because I honestly dont remember what I put down. Could I call them and ask them to check that or something?
