Thursday July 15th, 2010...A day of many firsts..

We left later in the morning for this trip, got stuck in a traffic jam, and only made it into the park around 1pm. We headed straight over to Gemini, which is almost always my first ride of the day.

While I love coasters, I used to only get to CP once a year..so I didn't have much experience riding them. The ride was thrilling enough, without putting my hands up.

The past 2 years I have been getting to Cedar Point more than usual, and I was finally ready to try it. :) So I threw them up on Gemini, front seat of course, and I will never hold on to the bar again. It was great.

Next we headed to Magnum. We rode 2 times in the front, hands up. :) Still the best coaster ever.

After that it was around 2pm and it was HOT. We made our way to Thunder Canyon, and got soaked..twice.

From there we decided to try Shoot the Rapids. The line was too long for my liking. I thought it was strange that it crossed the rail road tracks, but I guess they mise well use whatever space they can.

It was about a 45 minute wait, and then we finally got into the boats. The loading experience was a bit strange, but I understand that they have to balance them.

I loved the drops on this one. I just wish that there were more of them. Riding in the boats was pretty boring. I would have liked it better if they had water falls in the caves, like on Thunder Canyon. Still not a bad ride though. It was very family friendly.

Next was Millenium Force. Our first ride was on the blue train, and it was amazing. Our next ride was on the red train, and it was my sister's first time in the front seat. She loved it..big surprise. ;) We also rode with our hands up both times. Like I said, I will never have them down again. I'm pretty proud of myself, because back in the day I would ride MF with white knuckles and fists clenched around the bar. lol.

From there we ate pizza in the park. This was a few weeks ago, so I don't remember the exact price. I do remember that they filled us up though, and that we didn't pay too much for it.

After dinner we headed towards Maverick..FINALLY. lol. I have been to CP several times since it has opened, and something has always happened that has deterred me from riding it.

It closed twice while we were waiting, so that made the line go faster since a lot of people would leave each time. After about 45 minutes of waiting, it was finally our turn.

I absolutely LOVED the first hill. It was amazing. The ride was great until after the first inversion. From there it beat us up pretty bad. I was kinda disspointed. But not that I know what to prepare myself for, I want to try it again. I think if I learn now to brace myself from getting knocked around, I will really like it.

After Maverick my sister and cousin wanted to ride TTD, and I wanted to ride Raptor. We only had about an hour and a half left, so we decided to split up.

On the way to Raptor I noticed that it was down, but I knew it would be up soon so I kept heading that way. As soon as I got into the queue, they had it running again. I waited for the front, and it was a lot of fun like usual.

From there I checked to see if they were done with TTD, and I noticed that it was down as well. I knew that my sister and cousin would wait until it had opened, so I headed over to Magnum. Front seat, hands up, amazing, enough said. :)

When I was done with Magnum I stopped at TTD hoping to see them ride it. It was my sister's first time, and I knew she would be terrified. They were also going to ride front seat, so I really wanted to see her face.

After about 6 trains, I saw them..and I was right. I wish I would have gotten her face on camera. It was hilarious. She agrees with me that it's fun, but not worth the wait.

When they got off it was 9:55pm, so we booked it to MF. Red train again, and it was a great end to a great day.

I am hoping to get back for the charity even on the 29th. But I will definately be there for my birthday, August 10th, and I cannot wait. :)

Yeah, when I went a couple days ago I put my arms up on Maverick and it gave me a bruise. From now on im holding on to the restraints after the first drop.

Nice trip report.

When I was there in May I had my arms up on Maverick the whole time and there were a few times where I bumped my head pretty hard (including the turn right after the tunnel). My arms were sore from bumping the restraints (especially the next day), but it was still a fantastic ride. I believe I was sitting in the second to last row. Maverick is one of the few rides at CP that is more enjoyable when you hold on.

Four discount funday tickets to Cedar Point: $130.96
Overnight stay at Breakers Express: $70
Riding rides the size of skyscrapers while "legally" breaking the local speed limit: Priceless

Yes, I agree! You are crazy for having your hands up on Maverick!! lol. I cannot wait to try it again. When I don't like a coaster I ride it over and over until I do. :)

You're going to be riding Mean Streak an awful lot..... lol

The key to riding Maverick, I have found, is to lean into the turns just before you reach them. If you do this right, you will float right through it (and don't even need to hold on!). Granted, the bunny hills can still jerk you around a little, but at least this takes all the pain out of the turns.

One thing I would like to see is the restraints be changed to the soft ones like on Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion. It has some Maverick-ish turns and the restraints feel MUCH better.

^I agree, even though I never have problems with the restraints, people would not complain about the head pain.
