Update: 5/13 construction photos

"We're goin in a whole new direction" means that instead of building a record breaker like everyother coaster there, they are going to build a non-record breaking coaster...

I think "We're going in a whole new direction" could mean alot... The spiral lift concept is pretty interesting...

I always have to make my daily visit to this site to cheer me up. I get such a kick out of the people here that take some of these things to an extreme. Some of the people that are posting here should probably remove the stick that's stuck somewhere and lighten up a bit.

I'm not replying to anyone in particular, but as the old saying goes..."if the shoe fits...."

If someone is making a joke and has a smiley or a winkey with their post you should probably take it with a grain of salt and laugh about it too. I've seen entirely too many people take a sarcastic post and get offended by it.....relax.

if you're talking about me loopy, i was joking right back with him. i most certainly do not take a website posting all that seriously. geesh. besides, CP doesn't put holes in a wall because someone on a message board thought it would be a good idea. its all in good fun!! and i'll throw a smiley in just for you!! :)

Loopy's avatar

No, it had nothing to do with your post, that's the reason I made sure to place the reference to the smileys.

As far as CP doing something because of people on a message board....I think you may be mistaken, I suggested they put the wall up so it looked a little neater ;)

What are you guys talking about... CP Exectuives do everything we ask for on here... That's why we are getting a 500' strata-looper AND a 300' woodie....

Thanks CP... Ill be waiting for my check in the mail...

Noone's absolutely sure if the WWL station will be used as the new one, but as far as i can tell there's new boards on the walkway leading up to the station.

I don't think they'd add something like that if it wasn't going to be used anymore.

Here's the link to the pic showing new boards...

Those were actually added for 2005 WWL season, or prior to 2005, because I know they were there when the ride was still operating.

I was just there this weekend, and you can see a LOT from the lift hills of Mean Streak and Millie. I can see a lot of places where it seems to be parallel tracks, then it splits into two curvy loopy things (all the footers pretty much show you the layout when you view from above).

While this could just mean a lot of MF-style sweeping pretzels, I'm thinking that it's going to be a dueler. What's more, with all the "going in a new direction" and "back up" signs, I think one of the trains is going to be going backwards, a la American Eagle.

Walt's pictures are fantastic (having tried, I know how hard it is to get good shots of the area), but really nothing beats just going there and seeing it for yourself; you get a great sense of the size and stuff. To anyone wanting to check out the actual site, I recommend the path behind UR Dade, the holes in the fence by Mean Streak, and the train, but if you wanna see the big picture (like me), the lift hills are the way to go. Millie's gives a great view of one of those pretzel things I was talking about, and you can see another good one in the area between Thunder Canyon and the Wave Swinger/UR Dade.

It's still up in the air or not if they'll use that station for anything more than construction blockage.

If they're keeping the western "theme" then there's no reason for them to get rid of it.

Only time will tell....

On a side note, does anyone know a helo or plane pilot willing to take someone up for some photos...that's where the money shots are.

Wow, did i just say "money shots"? That's awful. *** Edited 5/15/2006 3:13:49 AM UTC by Loopy***

Final Coaster At Cedar Point's avatar

I agree with GeeForce about the 2007 attraction being a possible dueling; one going backward. If you look at the helix type footers that are in a circle there are two rings of footers. But hopefully we'll know by the end of the season. I still think it's going to be a launch though.

"Before you know it, that Maverick's got the drop on ya."

there's ONE coaster there, not two. the "dual" footings are for support columns. check any coaster. one support has two footings a good portion of the time.

Okay, I will agree that the dual footings would indicate some sort of A-shape support column, but I guess I should have mentioned that I thought the track would be attached to the footing itself; for a low to the water turn.

Whether there is one coaster or two that I think the circular turn will be the final turn on the coaster. If you look (facing south) you can see square "station" like footers on the left of the curve and several feet in between for a brake run. Just a thought.

The square footer there has two stubs on it in close proximity, because it doesn't make sense to do two separate footers. Counter clockwise around the circle the footers get further apart, indicating supports that reach higher, while the area closest to the Thunder Canyon queue has single footers, implying the low end of the turn.

Uhm... call me crazy. But what would be the point of a dueling coaster with one train facing backwards?

Only the car facing forwards would benefit from any sort of duel point. The backwards train wouldn't see it coming, rather.. see it leaving after the duel happened.

i agree... both(if more thatn one) will face the same way!

Gravity, I take it you have never been to Kings Island.

No, I've been to PKI quite a few times.. and have been on both sides of The Racer.

I take it you haven't noticed it's a racing coaster, not a dueling.

The original point was that a dueling coaster with one backwards facing train would be pointless. Racing coasters that run nearly the entire track side-by-side (Like, The Racer, for example) are a completely different story.
