Working at CP next summer

MillenniumForceLover's avatar

I hope to work at CP next summer. I have a few questions:I was jut there a week ago and during a shift change I saw lots of kids wearing backpacks on their way in and out of the park, should i bring one??Are the Commons dorms the ones by the CP causway entrance if so can we walk from the commons dorms to the actual park or do we have to take the bus/get a ride? How much clothing should I bring b/c I know we'll mostly be in our uniforms. I hope to be a ride host, I see lots of people doing lift walk on coasters I would love to but do you have to have more seniority? I'll be 19 by next summer so what color tag would I have? If you know any other thing you can think of to tell me please share! Sorry for the loads of questions thanks! :)

I will also be applying for next year, but I had asked questions a while back, but I can tell you that walking is prohibited on the causeway. Maybe I'll see you around!

Definitely bring a backpack.

Commons dorms are the ones right past Dairy Queen on the left hand side on Cedar Point Dr if you're heading towards the park.

You must either ride the bus, or find a ride. Walking and bicycling isn't allowed on the causeway bridge (atleast it wasn't when I worked there).

You'll be in your uniforms A LOT. But I still brought a couple pairs of jeans, a couple dress shirts, a few tshirts that are comfortable, and basketball shorts. Make sure you purchase white shoes and white socks if you want to be a ride host, unless ride host uniform rules change next year.

Lift walks are really cool. If you get placed at a ride that has a lift walk (ie: Raptor, Mantis, Gatekeeper, etc.), then you get to do a lift walk on the day of your training in case you ever have to do it during operation. Seniority has nothing to do with it, although your Team Leader/Co TL will be the one taking you up there.

All first year ride hosts have red tags. It doesn't matter how old you are. You could be 50 years old and a first year ride host and still have a red tag. The only other ride hosts with different colored tags are those who are in leadership (ie Team Leader/Co TL)

@alexknipfer hopefully! I wonder why they prohibit it!
@Twistedwicker77 thanks! everyone says commons on the L side but when we came in it was on our R . It was a white building with many windows. Maybe it's not commons? 2 more Qs: should I try and find a room mate or just surprise myself? and are there shower times or not (girls and their showers ;))
@thedevariouseffect I'm new to it all but I'm still used to hearing about ATLs not Co-TLs!! :O
Thanks again guys!

It's weird. I'll say ATL if I'm referring to the 2012 season or earlier, and CoTL if it has something to do with this season. Sometimes I still slip up and say ATL and people just look at me weird.

Anywho.

I would highly suggest bringing a backpack. I always, always, always have my rain jacket with me, since Ohio weather is ridiculously unpredictable.

You're not allowed to walk/bike across the causeway, and I have actually seen people get picked up by the CPPD/Sandusky Police for it.

Clothing? Don't bring too much. A lot of undershirts, underwear, and stuff like that.

Lift walks are a required part of the job if you work a coaster with stairs on the lift hill. It's part of your training for if/when downtime occurs you have to know what to do in those situations.

14-15 = Lime Green, 16-17 = Green, 18+ = Red Tag, TL/Supervisor = Blue Tag, Gold = Manager

2010: Millennium Force & Mantis
2011: Raptor
2012: Raptor, Sky Ride and Wicked Twister
2013: Co-Team Leader of Sky Ride
2014: Supervisor of Slingshot/Skyscraper

I would have to guess its not allowed because its a high traffic road, and they don't want any hazards like pedestrians or bicyclists to people approaching the park.

Also planning on applying to be a ride host in 2014 by the way

Will applications for summer of 2014 be available around Christmas time?

If I remember correctly, 2013 applications were released in January. If I'm wrong anyone feel free to correct me.

You might be thinking of Castaway Bay. Commons is seriously like right after DQ. It's all fenced in and has the walking bridge over the road (kind of looks like a prison).

It's always good to try to find a roommate before hand. Just so you can get the chance to know eachother before being blindsided by a complete weirdo. As for shower times, you can shower whenever.

I too am used to ATL and cringe at Co-TL sometimes, but now that this is the term they use, I thought I would be politically correct about it haha

Nope it had to be commons! it really does look like a prison! I just don't know how I'd find someone especially since I'm not from Ohio! thanks! :)

If you were coming in on First St. Commons would be on the right. You would then make a left-turn onto the Causeway.

Yep. I have 2 roommates from Michigan, and 1 roommate from Texas. The one guy from Howell, MI has had it out for me since day 1. But when I am around, he plays it off like nothing is going on. But don't worry about that too much.

If all goes well with updating them, probably the week after, or (early January); the LATEST.
