Cedar Point Removing Good Times Theatre

I suspect the park will build somthing similar to the Harmony Hall that was put at Carowinds. It's gotten good reviews.

Harmony Hall is a large building that offers food, seating, shelter and live entertainment.

I agree the ice show has been great for my family. I have two kids and for the last several years we've managed to see the ice show at least 2 times a season, but it was obvious the builidng was far larger than necessary.

Mantis was not removed as originally indicated it is being converted to floorless. Hotel Breakers is also being gutted and transformed. Could they just be removing the theater aspect of the Good Time Theater and reusing the current structure? The building is larger than necessary for its current use, but is it large enough to house a Triotech style dark ride? Perhaps the current building will just be converted into a dark ride as in the other 2 recent Cedar Fair installations.

Even if the building was usable for a dark ride, there's so much more they can do by rearranging that entire section of the park all the way out to the marina, as indicated above. That's why it would be torn down and replaced with a custom built building, preferably one looking nicer than an old theater box.

Seems pretty clear that the building will be removed and the land repurposed.

Because at 40 years of age, the structure likely isn't remotely worth preserving. Furthermore, reusing an existing structure would severely limit what can be done for any future use. Starting from scratch means that they have far fewer limitations, both in terms of structure and location.

That they are essentailly wiping the slate clean on such a large amount of land is the most exciting change during my lifetime, in my opinion. Lots of possibilities.

And removing the building frees up alot of land. If Cedars ends up going down and the road gets shifted, there is a great potential use for the land.

I agree. Cedars WILL fall, along with its parking area. I believe Turnpike Cars will follow, along with the Dodge-Ems. Calypso should be moved to the new Gemini Midway and be restored, it would fit in perfectly! The road will be shifted, and the sky is the limit on possibilities. New midway, new coasters, dark ride, age and weight guess booths, lockers, vending machines, Basketball winning games, the works! Plus, hardly any trees to remove!

Seriously though, it opens up great possibilities, starting 2 or 3 years down the road.

But PLEASE, do NOT put an open air venue along the lake! It would be completely useless on early and late season days, and the view of the lake is a distraction from the shows, not an enhancement. I know the people who live inland are enamored by the view of water, but this is right next door to a working marina. Plus, if you extend the park all the way to the lake, where exactly would the road be relocated to?

I love how the go-to speculation is always something about a giant coaster. Can't we just start with something logical like a better space for Luminosity?

I highly doubt they are going to remove a whole show just to add more space for Luminosity. That show has enough space and this space will most likely be used for a future attraction.

Especially considering I said nothing about any coaster being giant, and added more to the speculation than that...but oh well.

However, I just got an amazing image in my head after reading DJ's waterfront Luminosity stage idea.

Whatever they are doing, it must be pretty large scale to have to start clearing land already, right? Unless there is some mystery thing that we don't know about that's coming for 2016, why wouldn't they just let the building/show stay there for 2015.

I'm not calling for a new coaster/major thrill ride just yet, but in what other instances did they clear land this early for something?

I learned that the theater would seat 900 and that it indeed was the largest venue.

Kind of sad! I loved the Imax movies there as a kid and was the consulting engineer for the conversion from the Imax theater to the ice rink. Needless to say it was pretty cool to say I worked on a project at Cedar Point, got my very own Cedar Point Calendar that year (Millennium Force as the picture) and developed a relationship with Rob Decker. Pretty cool to say the least.

It's not parking for Cedar's, it is marina parking so I don't think that lot is going anywhere. Marina parking is at a premium as it is.

Someone else mentioned a venue against the shore, that won't happen for the same reason, marina parking and also it wouldn't be pleasant for the boaters to have the show and fireworks right next to their summer home.

Knocking down the theater removes just one show, even though it was a very good one. There are many ways that one show can be replaced with another, and even have entertainment expansion as Tony mentioned.

Labor Day 2005 WWL demolition for supports, themeing, etc of a coaster debuting in May 2007 : Maverick. This prep work and final end result will probably be huge in scale just like that was. There are tons of big trees to remove if Turnpike Cars is included. BTW, how many audience seats are inside the All Wheel Extreme stadium?

Walt/ Jeff any way to update us with pics when the demolition of the GTT starts? I'm tired of driving up there.

I am very happy to hear this news. If you look at that area from the satellite, there is a lot of space. Personally, I see a building for a dark ride, a much larger venue to house Luminosity or other forms of concerts, and a venue like Harmony Hall. When you add those three projects together, I don't see much land/capital left for a roller coaster. I agree with others, the red dorms are most certainly gone and at the very least the removal of the Turnpike Cars. Hopefully they can find a way to keep the Cadillac Cars, I like the idea of two car rides and the scenery and location of them are perfect.

Parking can be easily resolved. As for the fireworks, why couldn't they launch them at the same distance from the marina as they always have, just west/southwest instead?

With the removal of GTT, Move Calypso, take down the Cedars, remove Turnpike Cars, and move the road towards the bay and you could have a new midway connecting the BS area with an enlarged Luminosity area (which is greatly needed). They could easily fit a future coaster, 4D dark ride, and some flats in that area. I know people talk about taking out the Cadillac Cars but I think it is more astetically pleasing than Turnpike Cars and it would save some of the big trees that we seem to lose every year. There are alot of things that could be done here.

If the Cadillac cars gets removed I want a red one! I would drive it home to Cleveland myself! :)

I've been waiting all day to post my thoughts. Maverick00, I agree with 100%. Everyone wants the Cadillac cars to go with the Good time theatre, but I think it would be better If they just took out the turnpike cars. I rarely see a line over there for that ride. Cadillac cars always has people in the queue. Anyway though, back on topic. I'm kinda surprised they are getting rid of Good time theatre. At the same though, I'm curious to know If the whole building is coming down or will they modify it a little bit for the possible rumored dark ride in 2016.
