Cedar Point Removing Good Times Theatre

Parking can be easily resolved. As for the fireworks, why couldn't they launch them at the same distance from the marina as they always have, just west/southwest instead?

Not just fireworks, loud music and noisy crowds also. As for parking, describe how that can easily be resolved? Right now I park in front of my dock, I'm not willing to relocate to an area that is a long walk.

As for Cedars, it probably is going but I like the building where it is. Provides a nice buffer from the park.

I know it's been hinted at, but I'm just going to come out and say it anyway. I think the Good Time Theatre and Cedars Dorms removal is for a new roller coaster coming in 2016. McClure has already stated that the next big coaster is underway and I'm sorry to keep bringing this up, but something big is coming soon. Edit: 27m30s is the part I'm talking about. The video doesn't begin at designated times, and I didn't know the video would be imbeded in my post.

In my opinion, that area is too big for just adding a dark ride-- and don't see them pulling another Disaster Transport and building one next to the water. I am a fan of dark rides, though, when they're done right.

I also can't picture Luminosity being moved a few hundred feet, three years after its debut, in the marina parking lot, so it can be closer to the water.

The point isn't to move it closer to the water, it's provide it with a better venue. There is absolutely no way they tear down the theater and expand the park and not move Luminosity.

^ I cannot see them moving the Luminosity stage for whatever is coming in the future.

Yeah I don't really see that either. I can see them enhancing the seating, bleachers, and viewing area, but not moving the entire stage.

The theater itself is a pretty large building. I don't see why a dark ride couldn't fill that same spot without the need of any other rides being removed. If they don't want to move the road, the land Cedars sits on is pretty nice for a coaster to go out and turnaround on. The station could then be anywhere in the theater or Turnpike cars area.

I don't see a new coaster happening until '18 or '19 though.

Removing the GTT is amazing news, This frees up a good chuck of land for future development and gets rid of an eyesore and a firetrap. I hope the other concrete monolith on the other side gets bulldozed soon also. Both are unattractive structures and I am sure maintenance nightmares. Last time I saw the ice show there were barely 20 people inside, this attraction reminds me of the similar poor numbers Mantis had been receiving. I am sure Matt knows exactly what he is doing, got to wonder what’s next, Bon Air, Cedars, GTT, DT, SS, oh the horror - Cedar Point is removing all its history!

Yes, because there's a clear and obvious expectation that a marina directly adjacent to a huge amusement park would be quiet and tranquil. ;-)

But seriously - as I understand it, occupancy rates at the marina aren't exactly low. It's a safe bet that for every curmudgeon that didn't like all the commotion, there are at least two who would love the environment.

The footprint of luminosity, even including the entire midway between the bleachers and stage, is still small compared to the land taken up by Cedars. The number of parking spots could actually be increased by putting a venue where Cedars sits now.

As long as no trees are harmed in any demolition.

I'm normally very, very pro-tree during any new attraction install, but this is a pretty substantial opportunity to dramatically alter the layout of the center of the park, in a way that could pay dividends over the long term. So, as much as I'd hate to see any of those large, gorgeous trees in that area go away, I'd rather their plans not be limited by trying to preserve them, so long as they plant at least as many as they remove.

It was just sarcasim. :)

I figured it out - floorless theater!

^ Was that a serious suggestion or just a bit of shameless floorless theatre? ;)

I can't see them moving the luminosity stage closer to the lake. I would be impossible to use it during Halloweekends with the cold temperatures and wind that comes in off the lake. It has only been in it's current location for 4 years. With what they've done to the midway in that location I can't see how you'd spend that money to relocate it unless there is some type of flaw in it. I haven't seen the Luminosity show but I make a point to see Skeleton Crew every year. What an awesome show.

I don't see why they would need to move the road to build a coaster. The que and station could occupy the site of the theater with it's major footprint outside of the park on the site of the dorms. Similar to Magnum having it's footprint mainly outside of the park.

And yet we have Gatekeeper, Wicked Twister, Giant Wheel, Magnum, Mean Streak, Millennium Force, Maverick and the hotels operating until closing day every year. Seriously, when it's so cold that you're freezing your tits off, it doesn't matter where you are on the peninsula.

I'm not surprised the theatre is going though it is a little disappointing in that it is yet another "anyone can do it" attraction that bites the dust. But, assuming they are going to remove Cedars Dorm then it makes perfect sense that they would open up that large area for something new.

Personally, I think if they got rid of the Oceanarium Theatre that midway area (with the lake backdrop) would be a better location for a Luminosity type show than the bay side. Not sure the weather plays a role in either location.

I think Luminosity is in the perfect location. It's right in the center of the park and near one of the parks top rides. However, I think that area could be improved for foot traffic flow. It can be hard to get through that area at night when the show is going on. I think they could make it so you can go behind the bleachers or make a bypass midway that will come out over by Blue Streak. At that time of night, alot of people are tired and want to get back to their car and head home.

I don't know If they've started removing the Good Time Theatre yet, but just in case they kept up most of the building up, that makes a good fit for a good sized Indoor dark ride.

They are demolishing the building from what I've heard, not keeping it to repurpose it for something else.

As far as a coaster and moving the road, it wouldn't be necessary. A coaster can go over the road and other ground obstructions with no problems.

I just don't think Luminosity is in a good location. It seems very forced into a very small section of midway. I feel like the area should be much larger, it gets way too crowded. In addition, a bigger venue where they could host other events such as the Carly Rae Jepson show would be perfect. There's nothing like that in the park.

^^ See also:

  • GateKeeper crosses over a parking lot entrance road (for lack of a better term)
  • BlueStreak has a maintenance road that crosses from Perimeter Road through its structure
  • Etc... I'm sure they pretty much all have maintenance roads intertwined throughout the structure somewhere.

If they can have GateKeeper fly over the main entrance plaza, they can do a Perimeter Road crossing. Will they? That remains to be seen. ;)
