Storms at the point are always kind of interesting. I remember one time I was there and many of the shops (I remember the Speed Zone in particular) had several inches of standing water on the ground. The sky was looking pretty impressive here in Toledo just a short time ago too.

Some people have way too much time on their hands if they are staring at a webcam watching a thunderstorm. Wow.

I check the webcam for 30 seconds and I'm accused of "staring at the webcam" and having "way too much time on [my] hands?" I don't think that's very fair...

When I worked Dragster photo we always had to help bucket out the water at Speed Zone. I don't know why they ever built that store with the entrance leading down into the store. It's even worse since the drain plugs up too.

Oh yeah... Commons always flooded....

That lot by 1500 became a lake after almost every storm...

I just got back from the Point and there was hail hitting me on my way running. The midways were very flooded. but I did not see any trash cans floating away but huge puddles.

That's what you get for wearing "G-unit" sneakers.

It was a really something there today from about 7pm on, once the rain started, it didn't stop and it rained hard. The midway was so flooded it was up to knee level in some spots. People were running through the puddles and spashing each other, I even saw one person lying on their back in the water. I was tempted to join them, but then saw the trash cans turned over and the trash floating around...guess that changed my mind.

Not only the midway, but the parking lot was flooded as well. They had to detour people around to avoid a huge water puddle close to the entrance.

Oh yeah, we had hail too, for those who were wondering.

It was funny how quickly the storm came up with the wind, lightening, rain, and hail; everything in the park, which was normal, and then a second later turned to chaos. People running everywhere, screaming, trying to find shelter, trying to find their kids, trying to run from Gemini Midway to the car (lol, I know they never made it).

Anybody have any pix of the midway?

Jeff, could you post the video of the storm? I always love watching videos of storms

I ran down Gemini midway with a pizza box in my hand lol. I made it to my destination, Magnum entrance :).

I took some pics with my phone...I'll send them to Walt if there any good.

Last year, working on the midway by TTD, I was in the middle of a HUGE t-strom, luightning and everything, right above me! They called all the workers off the midway because it was so bad. The good news: If lighing had hit, it would have zapped the Power Tower or TTD before it zAPPED ME.

I just saw the most impressive, well organized wall cloud roll over my house minutes ago. Naturally I busted out the camera to record it. It was fairly awesome.

I live just a block away from Castaway. If it was the same wall cloud I saw here in the CP area, It was massive for this storm and in the middle of that cloud was the greenest clouds I have ever seen in my life. Be interesting to see if it held up the same when it headed your way.

As for the flooded midway. Back when I worked in the park The Gemini Midway in August 2003 got about a half a foot of water covering it during a storm that knocked a tree down behind Witches Wheel. You think a trash can floating down the midway is interesting, how about the tree branch I saw that day.

*Edit* I'm amazed to read how there was hail at CP and I live probably a mile maybe two to the south east and I just got heavy downpours. Nature is a mysterious force. *** Edited 6/20/2006 12:34:06 PM UTC by MonsterMan***

Yes, I saw that same front come through here in LaGrange. It was seriously the awesomest thing I've seen next to a real tornado. It almost looked like someone dropped a bomb and a mushroom cloud was moving in slow motion overhead.

It sounds like everyone was caught off guard by the storm. Im really suprised that they didnt give the "take shelter" signal to the sups. The warning was issued about 20 minutes in advance, and specifically mentioned large hail at Cedar Point. We had a few times where we were instructed to take shelter, and the storm wasn't even close to as bad as it sounds the one yesterday was.

Without seeing it, but knowing the conditions, I'm thinking it was probably an arcus cloud (either a shelf cloud or a roll cloud).

Yup, that's the cloud I saw Walt. About a half mile to a mile of leading general low level clouds in front then that monster showed up. From a distance you could see the mushroom part of the cloud. On the bottom it looked a lot like the shelf bottom in the picture.
