The fast pass system

To figure ride capacity on any ride...

C = Hourly capacity
I = Interval between dispatches (seconds)
N = Number of passengers per dispatch

C = (3600/I) * N

Sky Ride, for instance:
C = (3600/17) * 4 = 847 pph
Millennium Force:
C = (3600/97) * 36 = 1336 pph
Magnum XL-200:
C = (3600/75) * 36 = 1728 pph
Scrambler (estimate):
C = (3600/300) * 48 = 576 pph
Tilt-N-Hurl (estimate):
C = (3600/180) * 21 = 420 pph

...and so on.

It took me a while to realize that the 3600 was seconds per hour. (duh) Cool equation, RideMan. Thanks.
i would(and have) waited in line for mf for over 2 hours.and i would love it if i was able to go ride other rides insted of standing in line,so whats the big deal?if it rains you cant ride anything anyways.im all for the fast pass.think of it this way-would you rather stand in a maze for 2 hours listing to the same songs over and over again OR would you like to be on magnum,rapter,blue streak,gemini,ect?and still get to ride mf later.
I don't really care for the Fast Pass system. I've used it at Disney parks and it worked out for me well. I got my pass and sat on a nearby bench until my time came up. But other times when I didn't get a FastPass,(AK's Countdown to Extinction) it got horribly frustrating to watch hoards of fastpassers "cut" infront of us. I stood in the same spot for 20 mins because so many people had their fastpass come through at that time. That just sucks. I just don't like the idea behind it. Not to mention you need a seperate queue to do it.

Would this not make it harder to determine how long the line is (for regular riders)? This will also fool you when you "look" at the line. One of the great things about CP lines (besides they are the fastest moving in the country) is that you can see how long the line is by looking to see how much of the Queue is full.

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!
Keeping the lines moving is extremely important at Cedar Point, for one reason in particular.

Think about the queues at Cedar Point, then think about the queues at many other parks (Geauga Lake is a good example in this case). What do you see at other parks that you don't see at Cedar Point?

Graffiti.

Graffiti happens when the lines stop moving. When the lines are moving, there isn't time for anything more than a quick gum-stick. When the lines stop, people start scribbling essays on the railings.

Witness that on Millennium Force, the graffiti starts about where the queue extends to when the ride is shut down, for instance.

If CP should institute any kind of virtual queueing system, they need to keep this in mind...that they *must* keep the line moving. Perhaps the solution is to send *all* riders through the virtual queue, so that the queue at the ride always moves at full capacity...

I hate to dissapoint anyone that is coming to Cedar Point, but today they instituted the FastPast system for Millenium Force. From 9-11:30 the queue's are totally open, and then they start issuing Fast Pass tickets at the Entrance up until 8pm. I believe after that the queue's are open again. You have one hour to board and if you miss your time your out of luck. I hope this helps, but they have also have large signs at the entrance to explain it.
I don't care, as long as I can Ride. I don't care how they do it as long as i can Ride.

It might sound nice, but it's not "Fast PasT." Try pass, it makes more sense.

So, in other words, from 11am-8pm, you can't get in line for the thing, right?

Theoretically, this should mean that until 8:00pm, the line is whatever length it was at 11:00am, right? Still sounds pretty useless to me...

--Dave Althoff, Jr.
I hope there was something missing from Coasternut527's post. The way it is described makes it sound completely useless. That post made it sound like you couldn't ride between 11:30-8:00 without a reservation. I can't believe that is the case. Clarify please...

Can someone please explain it to me again, it does not make much sense. Will you beable to ride the Force more then once, and can you get the passes at other gates around the park?

Well it looks like the status of "rumor" has been upgraded to "truth". Does anyone know if you can get more than one fast pass, so that you could ride MF more than once from 11:30-8? Also, do they just scan your tickets or what?

As for the people who were at the park today, how did it go? We are all very interested!

As a huge supporter of the fast pass system, I'm hoping (read: praying) that coasternut527 left some details out. If this is truly how they're running it, then they blew it...big time!

Until we get more details, I'll spare the whining.

So my question is, within your hour how many times can you ride? Is the line still an hour anyway? Because it is pointless then. What was the matter before? With three trains running everything was fine.

Another question... What if you and a few friends go to get tickets and get different hours? Do you trade with someone and hope to get the hour you want or are you out of luck??

PS- Please Cedar Point-- Don't use any of this fast pass nonesense!! It was fine before. If people are willing to wait 3 hours for the ride... what is the problem???
The problem is the 3 hour wait. People are willing to wait for three hours in a line to ride the coaster, but dont have as much fun riding other rides. Cedar Point wants their guest to exprence a lot more of their rides. When I went on opening day I rode the MF two times and waited about four and half hours, and only got to ride four other rides.

B-Town, first of all, that post really doesnt make any sense to me at all. Second of all, with the three train operation, the wait time has never gotten to be much more than 2 hours. OK people at CP right now, hurry home to hopefully answer all of these questions we have!

Well I'm in the middle of a split shift and here's what I saw this morning:

I walked into the Marina gate this morning to pick up the sweeps pager at Park Services and saw a sign stating today's use of the "Ticket to Ride" method of queueing for Millennium Force. I walked down to the MF area when I was sweeping in the morning and saw color-coded cards being handed out around the ride entrance, each color corresponding to an hour's worth of time. During that hour, one with the appropriate color card walks up to the main entrance and it gets stamped, then that person can get in line. So theoretically you'll wait less than an hour once your block of time has arrived. Before that you're free to do whatever you want, I believe you'd be able to ride other rides too.

That's just what I know about it from being around this morning. There were a few managers and supervisors all watching and the system went through a few changes during the day, but I didn't hear complaints so it wasn't too bad I guess. We'll all just wait and see if they like it, heh.

Well, back to CP I go...adios!

So you can go on the force as many times as you want to in that hour? Are you aloowed to get more then one colored card?

Folks, there has not been a three hour line any time I've been there under three-train operation. In fact, I've never waited longer than 90 minutes with three trains, and that's on busy days.

Let's assume they're handing out 1,300 passes for each hour, which is roughly what they've been doing by most accounts. If you can show up at any time during that hour, you might get tons of people at the top and bottom of the hour, but fewer in between. Then figure in weather and mechanical closures and you have a less than perfect system. Kind of fixes what isn't broke.
