Shoot the Rapids is being removed!

New for 2017 Dinosaur's Alive expansion! ;)

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

I'd like to see something like the Timber Mountain Log Ride at Knott's Berry Farm. There is a reason its the most popular ride in that park. Would also like to see Paddlewheel Excursions make a come back but I feel like thats a lost cause.

That said, I wouldn't put it past Cedar Point to just put another coaster in that spot, since that seems to remain their primary focus.

Yea, another coaster in that spot would be awful, no one goes to Cedar Point for coasters.

I'm with Shawn on this one. I personally loved Shoot the Rapids. It was especially a very beautiful ride too look at from the midway. Sad to see it go. But as Shawn said, you gotta welcome the new. I sure hope they keep the western theme. If they keep all the theming as is, they could make a sick flyer that could maneuver through the canyons and buildings and lagoon. That would be awesome. I just hope they don't waste that great piece of land.

And one more note, this is going to be one hell of a Winter Chill Out!

I agree. Not a big flyer fan but all that theming would be prime for a coaster. I hope they keep all the nice waterfalls and "rocks." They can put a pay per ride there but it would be a waste if that is it.

I wonder who has the big mouth that constantly leaks stuff to the Sandusky Register?

Construction crew workers, especially ones hired to build things.

(In Yoda voice): Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

I'm sorry, but if they put RipCord there, that would be a HUGE waste of valuable real estate. We are talking a pay to participate attraction being put on a beautiful stretch of land...

Would Ripcord take up the whole real estate of Shoot the Rapids? Maybe they could keep the concrete troughs for a traditional log flume in the future?

Judging by this quote, I doubt the Sandusky Register had Cedar Point's approval to go public with this story.

"... We have not announced any changes regarding our current ride lineup,” wrote Tony Clark ..."

Wouldn't this damage their reputation with Cedar Point? Will they even be invited to media day for Valravn after this?

Rip cord would swing across the lagoon, but it wouldn't take up the whole foot print shoot the rapids has.

I would have thought these would have been enough to damage that reputation:

The Sandusky Register, like Janice in accounting, don't give a ****.

Maverick - "The West Was Never This Wild"

Interesting that STR was listed on CP's fast lane list just a few days ago...

This is still a rumor people.

It would have sparked a bigger rumor if it would not have been included. The park wasn't ready to announce the removal yet. Tony basically confirmed the rides removal in what he didn't say.

You all obviously don't understand how journalism works.

Journalists owe nothing to Cedar Point. They work for the people (I say this tongue in cheek of course). Their job is to report the news- not ensure people want it reported or not. Their relationship with Cedar Point is not based on whether Cedar Point "likes" them or wants them reporting a story or not. They write stories that sell. I'm sure traffic to sanduskyregister.com increased significantly yesterday from enthusiasts nationwide- which is all they care about. Cedar Point will never "bar" them from media events as that would not be in Cedar Point's best interest.

News gets leaked everyday, folks. Its increasingly impossible to keep secrets in the industry these days, and Tony Clark should've just confirmed its removal. Its not that big of a deal. I don't know why everyone gets bent out of shape about leaked information. If it gets leaked, it ultimately falls on the park for not keeping it under wraps better. Certainly not the Sandusky Register, and certainly not Janice in accounting.

In the political world, it isn't uncommon for a politician's staff to purposely leak a story to sort of "rip off the band-aid" before they release the info themselves. This happens with large corporations as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the park used this tactic from time to time. I also wouldn't be surprised if they used this tactic in this specific case. It's still a rumor, but I feel like the Register wouldn't run it unless they had a solid piece of evidence to back it up.

I made a point of looking for STR on the #3 cam earlier in the week (before any postings by the Register) and before they repositioned it. Both lifts of STR were still there, so de-construction, if it will happen, had not begun yet. My opinion is that nothing has yet been done even if it is true.

That they moved the cam, combined with the report and non-dismissal from Tony, is as strong a suggestion as imaginable that they're removing it, and that demo is already underway.

I would hazard a guess that part of the WCO tour was to include a surprising walk by StR.

Exactly what I was thinking. This was the shocker moment.

So be nice, and when Tony does take you to STR, everyone be like..."WHAT??!!??!!"

Except you, Shawn. You need to be like...

Promoter of fog.

If this were in regards to a ride such as Blue Streak or Magnum XL-200, Tony would have confirmed the rides the rides were staying. (Not that we would believe such rumours anyway.) With STR, there is no way Tony is going to help the reputation of the Register by immediately debunking this rumour if it turns out not to be true. (It probably is true, but we are set up to look like fools if it is not true.)
