Magnum Memories

There was also employee parking to the left of the hill. I worked there the summer it opened and would play "spot my car" as we climbed the first hill.

I wish I could have rode Magnum before they reprofiled the portion of track that currently occupies the trims before the pretzel turn. It's so awkward getting slowed down while you're leaning to the left.

^ I too would have liked to experience the original layout.

I did. Ouch.

I got my first trim free ride on Magnum on Saturday night, and it was the best ride I have had on it, especially in the ejector seat.

I don't remember it hurting but then I was in high school when it opened so that may have something to do with it.

Yeah, what made it painful? I've had a few trimless rides on Magnum and I found them to be more enjoyable than with the trims on. I'm curious how the straight track was more painful than the banked track.

I've ridden Magnum pre-1994 reprofile, but not enough to remember all the little differences.

But it's been said that the trim at the top of the hill (where it was prior to the reprofile) resulted you getting a gut check by the lapbar since the train was slowing down and you weren't. Then, the pullout from the bottom of the third hill going into the pretzel was pretty sharp and resulted into you smacking your back and butt firmly into the seat. Both of those events happening right in sequence doesn't sound like much fun to me.

I think the pretzel turn track was replaced with some beefier spined track around that same time frame. Some of the old timers would know better than me.

That's all very interesting. Thanks for clarifying

When Magnum first opened, the third hill actually went down about 15 feet or so more than it does now. That resulted in a nasty jolt to your spine as the train bottomed out. They put the original trim at the top of the third hill to slow the train before the jolt. Later, they raised the bottom of the third hill to smooth out the jolt and the trim was moved to it's present position.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Which one is the ejector seat?

If you happen to forget, you can ask the ride ops in the station which is the ejector seat. Also, ask for the airtime seat, I like that row as much or more.
Both rows make for an excellent ride on Magnum.

You can sit in the ejector seat if you like getting your legs bruised.

And you can just tighten your seat belt if you don't like getting your legs bruised. :-)

I don't really have a problem with my legs on Magnum but then I am one of the Mean Steak lovers so it may just be that I kind of enjoy being beat up by a coaster.
