Maverick Tunnel Themeing

I thought that was the coolest thing. They make a white curtain of fog and make it look like a waterfall. You think you're going to get wet until you actually go through it.

Haha. So true... I didn't know about the new effect and so when I saw it I was preparing to get wet!

The company who helped design the effect has a website. Since they are called FogScreen, I'm going to go out on a limb and say its probably just fog being used ;) .

For those who haven't experienced it yet, here is a video.

I loved the lights in the tunnel. When I started reading the thread I said "what mist?"... So sad I wish I would have seen or felt what everyone was talking about.

~They can't use smoke in the Maverick tunnel, too many people are allergic to smoke. It would cause too many problems. Thats why they use the mist. I'm sure they are going to work out the problem or whatever soon, their main concern for a while was replacing the track most likely~

I got my first maveric ride today! The mist and water bombs were not working, but it's still one of the best rides in the park. I certainly hope that they fix both the water bombs and the mist curtain before my next trip.

While cool, it's not that new of an idea. I can't think where I've seen it before though (unless you count the entire finale of Poseidon's Fury at Islands of Adventure).

That was a neat experience. I managed to go through it back in 1999 on a family trip to IOA.

Our of curiousity, what themeing was there in the Magnum tunnels that was removed?

I really hope the mist stays. It's perfect for that tunnel.

Im pretty sure you can see the effects of the tunnel on th pov of the ride on www.cedarpoint.com

This is mildly concerning about the special effects already running into trouble. Cedar Fair put a lot of money and thought into developing this amazing ride with all its terrific theming. I was hoping that this installation would mark a turning of a corner for them, and that they would finally 'get' how important all these elements are to the ride experience and that they need to be supported and maintained properly.

Not saying they're not going to keep the neato stuff going, just that I'm a bit edgy about it.

Wasn't there once a hole at the end of the tunnel that the treain came out of, instead of the whole face being open now, as you can see on the webcam? And do we know for a fact that the tunnel themeing has been permanently removed, or might they be working on it?

No, the sides and top of the tunnel extend beyond the end, so as to (presumably) prevent excess light from entering. The small opening is there, its just not visible from the webcam.

^ As seen here.

Ahh, yes. Thanks - I was looking for that, but obviously in the wrong place. If only PB had some dang content... ;)

And now the spray over the canyon is back on, and the water bombs are off again. I was there for a few hours this afternoon, and they were off.

I was there opening weekend. Ok, I did have my glasses off, but... I don't remember any fog in the tunnel. I do remember little LED lights or a strobe or something.

Also, The POV video animation shows a lot of wooden "trusses" before going through the rock formations. It would've been a cool effect if done. Maybe in the post season.

I was really dissapointed about the water bombs! I know get a life- right?! But would have been a cool effect for non riders to watch. The equipment seems to all be in place, after some snooping around the old haunted carosel building.

Hmmmm maybe someday CP will use theming.

The water bombs didn't start running until Media Day. The fog hasn't run since the Red Cross Ride but is (suposedly) being toned down.

Does that mean that the water bombs are in fact on now?

Also, how long does it take to "tone down" fog? Can't you just pump less of it in or at a slower pace?
