Mean Streak being replaced?

I heard a rumor a little while ago that there was a possibility that Mean Streak was going to be torn down and replaced with another wooden coaster. The rumor didn't say when this would happen. Also, this rumor was from a non-official and most likely unreliable source. I doubt that it's true, but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard about this.

That's all you need to know to establish the validity of the source.

While a lot of people would like to see Mean Streak replaced, its not going anywhere. At least not anytime soon.

Or probably not in 2010-11, at any rate.

Or not until after DK is gone. His ego won't allow him to remove a coaster, even if to replace it with another one.

With Dick reassuring people that Cedar Point is going to try to maintain its status as the amusement park with the most roller coasters, a Mean Streak removal would be a big -1 on the scoreboard.

Hi Joe, welcome to Pointbuzz.

There is typically a discussion just like this one every year. I think it is mainly wishful thinking that starts the rumors. Some day it will happen, but that day may still be a long time in the future. In the meantime, enjoy some of the past "rumors".

I doubt after putting efforts into already Re Tracking parts of the ride in the last year or two that they will tear it down. Why waste money to put new wood on it just to get rid of it?

If the Texas Giant retracking works, do you think they may try that approach on Mean Streak. Kinzel keeps his coaster and it becomes better!

I kinda liked Texas Giant the way it was, but then again the ride was always better then mean streak anyway. And, I did ride it more then ten years ago that probably made a difference in my perspective. I don't know how bad it got in later years.

probably.. Right now they are more concerned with Son of Beast than Mean Streak.. Once SoB re-opens (which I can't wait!!) then they will pry focus on Mean Streak more.

The only way it will be replaced in the near future is via an insurance claim from an accidental fire. I would not be terribly upset.

I think I'll be the only one sad once Mean Streak goes someday.. or is modified in any way.

No you won't...I will be too.

^ Me three.

I actually enjoy the ride for what it is.

I hope not i dont think it is necessary i think they should do what six flags is doing to texas giant turn it into a hybrid like gemini it would make it much smoother and they could remove the trim brakes and maybe even make it taller! Thoughts?

Eh, just destroy the whole thing and build a whole new good woodie. CP needs another good woodie, and if you do the Texas Giant rehab to it it won't be a woodie anymore would it?

Destroy it and build a GCI woodie if you're going to do anything with it. It's such a huge piece of real estate that could house a real fun ride.

Mean Streak is a good ride.(stop laughing!) I think it's biggest knock on it is its roughness and how some people might need a chiropractor afterwards. But lets look at the pros shall we. First off you hardly have to wait for it which is always a plus. Secondly, its a great way to get cooled off on a hot day. All you have to do is get in and have the wind sail through your hair. Finally, it has great ride time, it's close to 3 minutes.

Although the last part might actually be a bad thing for some people I still think this is a good ride.

I smile every year I go because for all the complaint so its roughness, I ALWAYS see the same older couple riding it several times in a row and ALWAYS in the back. I don't know who they are, but I always smile when I see them. I'm 42 and they have some years on me and I would not sit as far back as they do.

I used to enjoy the ride, but for some reason it seems to be running bad this year. Probaly the worst I can ever remember it running.

How much is six flags spending to redo texas giant? I believe it was in the $10 million range.I honestly don't think the retrofit is worth it. For that kind of money, you can build a brand new coaster. Mean streak kinda has a "meh" layout anyways. I think something new and exciting would be the best route IF meanstreak were to go byby.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
