Mean Streak being replaced?

Wow, I would just think if Six Flags were going to redo the ride, just build a new one. I have never been to Six Flags over Texas but was it truly an amazing ride? They could have probably got Gravity Group to build them a whole new replica of the ride for less than $10 million.

That is steep for a redo. A new coaster would have cost them less than that.

And Six Flags is trying to make the "steepest wooden roller coaster" but they can't now because of it's steel track.

They already have the steepest. El Toro.

Although, if they were to build a new steel coaster, in all likelihood, it wouldn't have wood structure.

The last few coasters that cedarfair has bought, have been wood coasters.

If Six Flags was to just build a new ride they would have to take down Texas Giant to do so. Adding to the cost of the new ride. IDK what demolition costs are, but if the new ride cost $8 mill and demolition of the old ride cost $1 million then the make-over and a new ride would be about the same cost.

I don't think you understood what I was trying to say. You said it would have been cheaper to build a new coaster. That might be true is they were building a wood coaster. But, Giant is no longer a wood coaster. If they were to build a new steel coaster it would be a lot more than $10M. So, they in fact got a heck of a deal considering that (when complete) this will now be a steel coaster.

^ In reference to what your saying, I hope Cedar Point doesn't decide to revamp Mean Streak the same way they are doing Texas Giant. I'd rather they re-build Mean Streak from scratch. If in fact they did decide to get rid of Mean Streak, I hope they make it like how Voyage was made. Which still is by far the smoothest wooden coaster I've ever been on.

^That is what I was thinking. Gravity Group could easily build Mean Streak over again for $6-8 million. That could be a great investment because the maintenance would be < half w/ steel supports instead of wooden supports.

Voyage is a great ride and it will be great w/ the GravityKraft they are putting on the ride. At IAAPA they had them and they looked amazing. Mean Streak could totally use these because the wheels on the train actually turn which lead to less wear and tear. If they were to take Mean Streak down, how would they demolish it? Take all the wood down, blow it up, or set the structure on fire?

I vote for a special night time spectacular show at the back of the park and the most fireworks you've ever seen-- lots of roman candles -- something with inferno power that would put Disney's fireworks show at Epcot to shame :)

^^Oh I don't want the ride to go down though. How did Hercules at Dorney demolish? I am not familiar with wooden coasters getting dismantled.
