New for 2014

I am sure the people in marketing are hard at work determining the price increases and exactly what they can upcharge us for next year.

In those discussions, their creativity is unmatched. (well except for the group that has to do damage control on what is down and/or being removed)

I'm almost more interested in what the hotel renovations will look like than I am about what ride Cedar Point may or may not put in. That's actually something bordering on confirmed. Give me some concept art featuring, you know, contemporary décor, carpets, et al. That will get me excited.

Now if only people wouldn't beat the hell out of the furniture and everything else in the room! I just don't understand the lack of respect for others property.

I'm more interested in what they are going to charge for the rooms after the updates! They are already on the high side with prices for a lackluster room...paying for the location. Should be interesting to see where the prices go with fresh rooms!

When you visit CP, visit my Mill, est. 1835

No Steve, I'm sure they are spending most of their time preparing a very mathematically complex rain check policy, or partial refunds for when one ride goes down or if it's too windy.

So, (MaverickLaunch) they are going to adopt the policy they already have at Six Flags?

I would have expected something more from the creative juices at Cedar Fair.

Here we go again....

As discussed in the past, something new / renovation to the area near the Blue Streak to celebrate the 50th anniversary in May of 2014. Additionally, the removal of the old dorms near the marina along with renovation and perhaps relocation of the perm. road. Help improve / refresh the flow around Raptor, Game Day Rest., Blue Streak and spill out near the restrooms in front of the CPLE Railroad. Refresh the entrance from the Marina. In 2021 (a long-way off) the Cedar Downs will celebrate it's 100th anniversary. Perhaps redevelop the unused half of the Good Time Theatre as well. Simply....a lot of potential in that area. I am not even going to suggest the removal of any rides. Really, not much has changed in this area with the exception of Raptor since 1974. I think we should keep our eye out in this area.

Another comment......building of new dorms with A/C and newer facilities would help with employee satisfaction as well. I believe Cedar Fair has a great game plan ahead with Hotel / Resort renovation as well. Good for the Sandusky economy as well.

Now if only people wouldn't beat the hell out of the furniture and everything else in the room! I just don't understand the lack of respect for others property.

If you spend any amount of time at all observing the patrons of Cedar Point on a given day (ie "people watching") it will become very apparent why said people beat the hell out of the hotel rooms.

Sure, it's a generalization, but a largely valid one if you are honest about it.

In the NEW CEDAR POINT TEASER thread, Tony posted:

"When the first stripe of paint appears on the midway for 2014, I won't post a photo of it - I don't want to disappoint.

Wait. I just realized I teased 2014. Whoops!"

Even better yet....which midway? There's a few.

I think the hotel renovation is our big expenditure for the year.

I asked this question of John Hildebrandt (VP) at the Pointbuzz offseason tour and was told that the $60m hotel improvements over the next 3 years (with the Breakers being the 1st focus) would not take away from the regular capital improvements so I think it's safe to say that we'll see something new for 2014 and probably even bigger for 2015. We'll see...

I don't see anything big for CP next year, but I've heard many rumors of a dark ride in the Coliseum building. I personally am not a fan of dark rides, and especially after riding TDK coaster at SF Great America, I have come to enjoy them even less. So if CP does end up getting a dark ride, there are two things that I would highly recommend they do. Number one is, actually make the ride dark, as the name implies. TDK coaster didn't get great reviews from me because there is one light in the building that illuminates the interior just enough for riders to be able to see the whole track, making it more of an outdoor wild mouse than a dark ride. Furthermore, although dark rides are restricted due to them being confined to the space of a building, I feel that TDK could've been far better with a more creative layout. In short, I see only one solution if CP were to invest in a dark ride: a PITCH black Intamin ZacSpin

Love the idea except for one word: Intamin.

Say what you want about their reliability and issues, but they make really fun rides. My top 3 rides are Intamins (only Magnum breaks the Intamin streak in my top 5).

^ I agree. Intamin rides have their fair share of "issues", but they still make the best coasters!

The train crossing lights and bells could use some maintenance.

Ehhh, the lights and bells are fairly new. IMO the crossings are good.

I am going on a limb here and going to guess...

Lake/Beach additions/improvements... Making a "boardwalk" of sorts with food/games/activities.

I'm going to guess as well... the world's first terracoaster that will stretch from Camper Village all the way off point and back!

Does anybody else face-palm themselves anytime somebody posts one of these comments?

Now to wait for the inverted woodie 25 looping 4-D coaster comments...

I face-palmed myself... And I take back my previous comment - let's see the woodie! :)

I doubt it will be anything major since we really haven't seen any teasers or clues about whatever's new for next year. I still want to hope that the Dark Ride rumor is true, but right now I have absolutely no clue what's in store. What interests me is how Tony said he needs help with the announcement.

Well... OK... As long as you face-palmed yourself!

On a serious note, CP is in desperate need for an epic GCI twister. They could remove Gemini or Mean Streak with no hard feelings from me!
