Time to retire Corkscrew

I know alot of people feel CP should keep this coaster simply because it is a coaster. However I think it is time to put this ride to sleep. twenty five + years ago it was one of the best but now I almost feel sad for it. all of the other coasters, even DT has surpassed it.

Have you ever seen anyone coming into the station with the slightest smile on their face? NO! people are asking why did they get on? and I think I fractured something. Even though BS is an old coster it will never lose it's charm. It is also as good as the day it was built. Hell most of the shoulder restrains on the corksrewed do not even stay up anymore.

It's time to replace the old girl with a new bigger faster looping coaster.

Probly because it's part of Cedar Point's history, and it's a landmark to the Main Midway.

I enjoy Corkscrew, it's got good air over the hill leading into the loop and great corkscrews over the midway.

I totally agree with you....its time for it to go...ever since i went on it in 98', and came off it with a back injury. I have felt like that ever since. That was my first and last time on the corkscrew. I dont think they should be like six flags and keep coasters just for numbers

I disagree 100%. Its a true classic and still a great ride. Is your main argument that it should be removed because it is old? In that case, why don't you get rid of Gemini, too, she's getting up there. I think they all need need to stay.

I wish they could raise the height of the lift and add some new elements to the overall ride, especially the end, but keep the corkscrews, maybe adding more little hops into the station.
Well they could always re-moudel it.

Are you insane? Corkscrew is a classic. Yeah, it's short. Yeah, it's rough (not nearly as much as MS, though). But, c'mon... how can you beat the airtime on that bunny hill before the loop? The ride's great... leave it alone.

I totally agree with you Gravity. The airtime on that bunny hop before the first lift makes it stand out from any other arrow corkscrew. I love that part!
A question for Gravity. Which would you rather ride if could only ride once MS or corkscrew? even though MS is a bit rough I will bet most would rather see corkscrew go over MS.

I just feel the ride is not in good shape as it once was. I would rather have CP have the best coasters then the most. Would you go to a park because it 20 coasters, or go to a park that had 15 of the very best?

Maybe they could update the rolling stock during the next few years... I know that Arrow is nearly out of business, but what's to say that they couldn't bring someone else in to do the dirty work. (Steel Phantom, anyone?)

By the way, I got this idea from Disney's (Anaheim) version of Space Mountain. It wouldn't make the ride any longer or more thrilling, but it could make the ride smoother. Maybe it was my imagination, but I thought I saw a small hole or two in the 'footwell' of a few coaches.

Heck, with what Premier's been doing on their mad cobras, why don't they just scrap OTSRs for lap bars? Not an Ohio law, because FOF did it...

Your nuts, I love the screw. First of all it doesn't take up barely any space and its still a great ride. If our Corkscrew was poorly maintained and ran like the ones found at the smaller parks then I would say get rid of it.

Just because I have always wondered-why do they have that bunny hop hill before the first loop? If you don't have your head back, that damn hill gives you whiplash :)
I think corkscrew is a good ride, but the only reason that I don't like to ride it is because I am a taller person, and whenever I ride it, the g forces on the ride always push the restraint down and the end of the ride is always uncomfortable.

Plus the fact that the ride is a landmark in the park.

Coincidence?

I kinda agree. The Corkscrew is rough and not liked much, but i think if they got new trains for it, mabey a couple coats of paint, and a makeover, it would be a great ride. I heard that on most coasters that getting rid of the OSTR and replacing them with a Lapbar makes the ride even more enjoyable.
I don't know how you could ever have anything against that coaster!!! I love it!!! If you have never sat in the very back of the corkscrew I highly recommend it. I think it has the best airtime in that seat than on any other coaster. It's perfect weightlessness. It doesn't throw you up against the harness, but it keeps you up off your seat. The lift hill actually has the most airtime. It crests over the top so sharply, the back is still going up while the front is going down. This kinda throws you over the top, and I love it!! The second hill has a very similar effect.

I believe the corkscrew was the first three inversion coaster, had the first corkscrews on a coaster, and was the second inverted coaster ever. Besides, with hardly any waiting time, how could you not like this coaster. It beats any flat ride, at cp for sure!

Coasters? i thought those were those things you put under drinks? ...am I on the wrong site?

Matt,

You are correct in stating that Cedar Point's Corkscrew was the first roller coaster to feature three inversions. However, Knott's Corkscrew (relocated to Silverwood) was the first ride to feature the corkscrew element. The second coaster to feature an inversion was Edwin Prescott's Loop-the-Loop installed at Coney Island in 1901.

My wife and I think this ride is great, but it needs new comfortable trains. What is with that supposed head rest?!? Actually where it sits on us is between our shoulder blades and makes us sit leaning forward and hunched over in the ride. You call that comfort? It is not like we are real tall either. Plus those OTSRs suck and add to the discomfort of the ride - gives you a head-banging / ear-boxing ride.

I say put those in those Phantom's Revenge trains. Those were a definite improvement on that ride, or even something more like the new trains on FOF at PKI.

You know, I think your grandmother is getting pretty old. I guess you better get rid of her. I am tired of this old = bad stuff. Corkscrew is still a great ride and is probably the first to bring non-riders into the action.

Keep your hands off my Cork!

I would rather see something happen with MS before Corkscrew. Even if the 'screw was removed, not much would go in it's place since Power Tower elbowed it's way in there.

Just because a ride isn't the newest and best anymore doesn't mean that it has lost anything. If anything, it's gained everything when it comes to nostalgia.

CP has an incredible array of coasters. When you're running the park.. then you can do something about it. Until then, don't ride it. "One Less Person..."

Actually, I would much rather ride Corkscrew than Mean Streak. Half the fun on Corkscrew is that it IS rough. You get a feel for the oldness and stuff.
